How do I remove all GUI-related packages from existing installation.
Including Gnome, KDE, X client apps and libraries, X server.

Thanks

Try
Code: Select all
apt-get autoremove xorg
This will remove the xorg package, everything that was automatically installed for it and everything that depends on them(and everything that depends on them, etc). That oughta flush most, if not all, of your GUI packages. Note that if you're using Etch, only aptitude keeps track of whether a package was automatically installed(so any packages installed with Synaptic or apt-get won't be removed except for dependency issues).

This is a bit extreme, but it works:

Code: Select all
apt-get remove --purge x11-common
apt-get autoremove --purge
apt-get install -y deborphan
deborphan | xargs dpkg -P # do this a bunch of times
I am currently a Debian Maintainer. I am also in the New Maintainers' Queue.
