Intel 5100AGN, iwlagn, kernel 2.6.32-3 and Debian sid

Hi all,

I´m using a Intel 5300AGN on a Vostro 1320, running latest Sid AMD64. After a couple updates on the firmware-nonfree package, I´ve started getting intermitent problems with my wifi - it connects on some aps, get an ip, and work for like 10 seconds, and the net flux just stops, both on wicd and network-manager-kde. The interface is still connected, but I cannot ping or access the network in any way. The card and the hotspot is fine - works without problems under Windows 7. Anyone experiencing the same behavior? I can provide more information if needed.

Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection

Thank you

I think that card needs the firmware provided by the package firmware-iwlwifi and not one in firmware-linux-non-free.

Searching more on the internet, I've found that this bug seems to be happening on several different distros, so probably is a firmware problem. Still don't know how to solve it, but got these two messages on dmesg:

iwlagn 0000:0e:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x82000000.
iwlagn 0000:0e:00.0: iwl_tx_agg_start on ra

Usually after these messages I cannot initiate new TCP/ICMP connections or the internet becomes really slow. I've put, after reading this forum from Red Hat
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=519154#c11

the file /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf, with

options iwlagn swcrypto=1

and will test to see if it helps the problem.

Re: Intel 5100AGN, iwlagn, kernel 2.6.32-3 and Debian sid

Hi, I have the same card, I am also on debian sid, but my kernel is 2.6.32.2 and everything works fine
for me as long as I stick to wicd for managing my connections.
Recently I updated my system and by mistake installed network-manager (and a host of other network-manager-* packages),
and as a result, not only wicd stopped associating with my draft N router, but also my system began to freeze as soon
as I logged into kde (when network managment started, I guess).
If I remove all network-manager related files, everything works like a charm. Here is some output right before one system freeze:

Thanks, but even with wicd and all the network-manager packages removed I still got the same error, and now worse because the bug in the 32-4 kernel.
