I suggest you change ffmpeg for avconv, as ffmpeg is deprecated.

Deb-multimedia is still providing the "real" ffmpeg, so keep that in mind. Using "ffmpeg" still works in all cases, even with libav.
The MX 15/ MEPIS repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Variety 0.6.2, Pale Moon 27.0.1, Liquorix kernel 4.8-16, SMPlayer 16.11.0, Corebird 1.0,Shotwell 24.2, Mesa 13

I actually switched back to debian from Funtoo/Gentoo where the whole ffmpeg/avconv discussion can sometimes get a little 'heated' :|
I had been away from debian so long that I forgot about the preference for libav-tools.

But yes, absolutely true: both can be used in the scripts above, i actually have both installed (via @deb-multimedia.org repo).

As the trend is towards libav-tools and away from ffmpeg 'real' i thought it a good idea to go with the previous suggestion to update the simple guide to avconv.
