Re: Amarok
Amarok (I was a fan) was great in it's time (R.I.P.), most likely won't be in debian 10 (QT4 still), I have since switched to strawberry

Re: can't connect to the internet
Because you never set the immutable attribute on /etc/resolv.conf in the first place. The OP obviously did and forgot about it or did not realize what they were doing, and only chattr could fix it. I see what your saying now, somehow I missed this "i" my humble apologizes labud@debian9T:~...

Re: can't connect to the internet
dhclient did not fix anything. Without chattr, it would not have been able to write /etc/resolv.conf. I just did this on 2 machines, installed debian (net install) went straight to sid, all I used was dhclient -r; dhclient, I will now do it on a 3rd machine I've never had to use chattr in my 20 yea...

Re: can't connect to the internet
I don't know what was broken /etc/resolv.conf was set immutable so `dhclient` (which was called by the dhcp statement in /etc/network/interfaces) couldn't populate it with the correct nameservers, running p.H's `chattr` command fixed this. Your interfaces file also had a comment un-commented result...

Re: Are there any Debian Unstable users here? What's your us
I've been running debian sid (and servers) for just about 20 years (most of us at siduction has) without problems (kde). I run both debian sid and siduction (based on debian sid), siduction is my main operating system. Gotta love sid  System: Host: x1 Kernel: 5.0.0-rc5-siduction-amd64 x86_6...

Re: Nvidia proprietary driver problem
DKMS will build the nvidia module for your system, via the nvidia-kernel-dkms package. Just restart your system to enable the nouveau blacklist. (no need to manually blacklist it) There is no need for a xorg.conf or to install/run nvidia-xconfig anymore. It's been like this for years (sid), but, sta...

Re: Nvidia proprietary driver problem
I really don't understand the way the wiki has people installing the nvidia drivers, it's such a simple process and the wiki makes it a mess and hard, it's not rocket science apt purge nvidia. (Make sure you include the period, this will delete all of nvidia blob) Get rid of any xorg.conf you have (...

http://paste.debian.net/hidden/2f3677d6/ Why use `echo` & a pipe with `tee`? # tee -a /some/file <<<"text" Here strings ftw! Oh, and the OP is using stable so perhaps don't advise adding sid? :? @OP: try # aptitude install -f wine{,32,64} libwine{,:i386} fonts-wine Ouch, you are corre...

It might also help to let others know (when asking for help) that you are running debian sid and not debian stable, makes a big difference.

Re: Black screen after starting session for 2 minutes
All you need right now in sid is a little patience You have the qt5-transition 30% done causing some problems and will have hell right now with plasma5 Last/this week some people were downgrading from systemd 240 back to 239 until a temp fix was found (this should help your slow starting session) Fr...

Debian and Ubuntu share the same home partition. This should never happen Ubuntu is not binary compatible with Debian UID and GID must be the same on each distributions for the certain user(s). Different configuration files for the same programs could result in unexpected behavior. (ubuntu uses a m...

Re: Even yet a Nvidia driver install problem
I got tired to get this to work, so I took the opportunity to try another dist, but I thought the dist was buggy. So here I am again trying to get this to work. I can get it to work if I remove xorg.conf. When having a xorg.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf I only have 2d graphics. If I remove xorg.conf I...

Re: Firefox 60 ESR performance issues
I don't use ssd drives at the moment, but I also don't use debian's firefox/thunderbird, (both nightly) instead, I get them directly from mozilla. I have 2 older identical systems (same motherboard, cpu, ram) like this (one uses amd, one uses nvidia video card) System: Host: x2 Kernel: 4.18.0-3-amd6...

Re: Firefox 60 ESR performance issues
Have you tried after you disabled graphics acceleration setting from within firefox to also do
and in the search type
and toggle that to true
I have some old 2 core amd machines that run firefox nightly like butter without this setting.
Code: Select all
about:config
Code: Select all
webgl.disabled
