splitting backups

Hi all =) The thing is that I got a backup file who is 30GB++ large. This is files that I don't use normally but don't wanna delete either. So how do I split this file up in lets say 4.7GB pieces to fit on a dvd? i know there is a "split" app/commad, but I cant understand how it should be ...

Hehe, you are probably right. But it should not be impossible to compile and install gtk and dependencies.

Amaya solved my editing needs so that is no longer an issue... Maybe I'm getting stubborn and bitter now...
