Re: Installing KDE 4.7 packages from Kubuntu
Sometimes the Debian developers wait until KDE has settled down. Based on kubuntu, 4.7 brought in some big changes (kmail2) and lots of people including me have had some major problems (my kubuntu laptop would spiral into an akonadi process linked to kmail2 which consumed my entire swap space, crash...

Re: no sound theme
No change. In my System->Preferences->Sound control panel, all options on the Sounds Effects tab are disabled.
In the gconf-editor section you mentioned, the default_mixer_device is blank. The theme_name is freedesktop
I have pulse audio.

I have a sid/testing installation, using gnome. I have no sound themes. The Sound Theme tab is greyed out. Sound itself is working.

beagle indexing?
Hi. I posted this before but go no reply. In squeeze, I can't get Tracker or Beagle to index my Evolution IMAP accounts. I posted a bug report for this in Debian and also on gnome. It's seem really odd that no bug reports existed already. Perhaps I have a very strange configuration problem. Does any...

Re: Lenny, nvidia (GeForce 8400 GS), and Dual Monitors
Hi. What I do to get this working is a) install the nvidia proprietary drivers. I use testing now; I don't know if the Lenny package supports your hardware, but if it does you can stay with Lenny. b) there are various ways to get both monitors working, such as graphical tools. In the end, I preferre...

Solved. I needed to enable Window Decoration as an effect in CompizConfig preferences.

Re: nvidia & compiz not working
I'm stuck. I can't get it to work. I wonder if someone has some advice who is using the current sid packages with nvidia. I have the nvidia 180.44 drivers, xorg 7.4, and kernel 2.6.29 glxinfo indicates looks normal to me. glxgears works very nicely. I just don't get window decorations and I can't fi...

nvidia & compiz not working
I have nvidia 180.44 installed. metacity compositing works. But compiz doesn't; I don't get window decorations (eg no title bar).
I have the new X (it's sid) so my xorg.conf is minimal. I'm wondering what is wrong ... the laptop is a Dell Vostro.
regards
Tim

Re: nvidia dual screen windows maximising to entire desktop!
ok, I'll answer my own question.
I saved the changes to xorg that nvidia settings wanted to make (initially I gave everyone write permission in /etc/X11 since I was running it as non-admin) and logged out/logged in, and all is ok.

nvidia dual screen windows maximising to entire desktop!
Using squeeze with the Nvidia driver and two monitors. When I maximise a window, it zoom to take over the entire desktop, that is, over both screens. Dialog boxes that aim for the centre of the screen end up in the centre of the total desktop, meaning they are spread over both screens. I am using nv...

Re: 423 packages wait for libtool
thanks. I'm going to wait, because I'm going on a testing diet. I've used sid in the past, but at times it takes a lot of love and attention, so I want to find out how good testing is as a reliable yet reasonably up to date system that just works.

Re: About the LCD ClearType patch
I've installed Debian and Ubuntu multiple times on various laptops in the past year, sometimes on machines with intel graphics and sometimes with Nvidia. Every time, the fonts look great on both systems out of the stock install. This is true of Lenny and testing. Debian's fonts look better to me, pa...

Does anyone know why libtool and automake are not going into testing?

could not authenticate when unlocking admin tools, testing
