You'll need wpasupplicant installed if you don't already have it for WPA and WPA2.

Not certain about the realtek wireless network cards; but I know that some WN cards have firmware that you can update. It's yet another wild shot, but have you tried updating/reflashing that firmware?

Are you running an amd64 installation or a i386 installation?

I seem to remember getting that error message when I tried to run a ELF-32 executable (32-bit standard linux executable) on an amd64 system.

Testing is probably the best for desktop computers; Stable is best for servers. The software in Stable is pretty old by the time it gets there.

Lenny usually gives me uptimes of 10 days or so. Perfectly acceptable for a desktop machine.

Run dpkg-reconfigure xfonts-base. I seem to remember that helping when I had this problem.

I'll be offline for a few minutes, installing Debian into a virtual machine, seeing if I can reproduce the problem I had.

My computer and it's firewall passes every single test that there is there.

What it means is that you don't have 3D acceleration. Nothing to worry about at this stage.

Not really; none that I know of.

You may be better off with an iptables interface like guarddog. I vastly prefer the GUI of guarddog to firestarter.

Better yet, learn the iptables syntax and use the command-line directly.
