Re: [SOLVED] Debian 10, compatibility problem

Success!! I've expected longer battle, but when I have followed “what doctor ordered” X statred working like a charm.

To (maybe) help in some further development I would like to point to some differences between before and after modification:

1. The firmware <xserver-xorg-video-intel> was already installed, so I've skipped the apt-get part; this “firmware” is a part of xinit standard installation. Here is the output of dpkg -l | grep “xorg-video”:
ii xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.7+19 amd64 X ...

Re: Debian 10, compatibility problem

Today I've done one more thing:
I've used <firmware-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso> to install buster with graphics; during the installation the LXDE desktop was chosen. The installation went w/o errors, but after reboot system crashed. Installation took quite a long time & I didn't have time to recover the logs.

Here is < .xsession-errors > log from the attempt described above:
Xsession: X session started for mypass at Tue 06 Aug 2019 12:45:10 AM UTC
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by ...

Re: Debian 10, compatibility problem

Sorry for the delay, but I needed time to make sure how buster and stretch differes.
First how I have installed (for the purpose of this testing) both debian releases on converted Googlebook; Acer c3-532:

- Since wifi required non-free driver I have used “debian-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso” image to install bare debian w/o the network.
- After debian installation, using dpkg, I have installed relevant wifi driver.
- Using binary from the above iso I have installed, wpa-supplicant and I have ...

Re: Debian 10, compatibility problem

Thank you for picking up the discussion. I have not reported this “feature” as a bug, because I do not know it is a bug. However, I felt obligated to report this problem somewhere; why my post is here. Here are some facts:

- Debian 10 crashes during Xwindow installation on my computer, while Debian 9 works close to perfection (pls. Notice that debian 10 is LTS, while 9 is not).
- According to changelog; debian 10 uses wayland as the default X driver (xorg is used but not default).
- xserver ...

Debian 10, compatibility problem

I would like to report that the new release of debian buster is not compatible with my computer; the debian installer crashes during X installation. Clean netinst installation works fine, but X installation crashes. I suspect that Wayland is not compatible with my hardware. On the other note; NONE of my application uses wayland, ALL my user software use Xorg. I have reverted to stretch, which is working just fine.

Is it possible to install buster w/o wayland drivers?

Here is my computer;
It ...

Re: Sound on ACER CB3 111 ChomeBook

Here is my latest information from my Debian fight:

gallium OS (Ubuntu derivative) has made sound working on this computer, hence I've checked its setup; they use max98090 driver for sound-card. To accommodate these driver I have made following changes to /etc/modprobe.d/audio.conf (it is identical with gallium OS):
options snd_soc_max98090 index=0
options snd_hda_intel index=1

Also I have checked loaded drivers:
Debian:

Re: Sound on C710 & C720

Hey Hey Hey !!!
It is working quite well (better than on C710, where voice is quite distorded). I have to revisit C710 setup.

Thank you, we should mark it "solved", so it would be easy to spot for future reference.

I appreciate your help: ispgardner

As always Debian is super:

Re: Sound on C710 & C720

The problem seems to be solved.
It starts working & I do not know why?
The alsamixer looks different.
I know it is only diagnostic, but I'll try to repeat the same procedure with my other googlebook C720 (& document little better).

I'll send the feedback how it works.
I need hour or two to get back to forum.

Thank you for help

Frontal assault on Linux mobile devices.

I'm trying to install Debian on one of the inexpensive Android tablet and I've found that support for such port is disappearing at best; handheld.org is gone, linuxdevices.com is also gone. Debian support for such port is minuscule. So far, I have found that some devices that use Allwiner A1x/mali400 can run Linux. Also, some TI devices can run Linux. I would appreciate if someone know about the list of linux friendly tablets that can boot Debian, guide to kernel & video building etc.

Thank you.

Re: Problem with Wheezy install

Thank you Robert,
The nomodeset did the trick. I appreciate that you would take some time & helped me with my problem. For the record; Dell's lattitude D430 is a laptop with Intel GMA900 chipset. I was able to boot one out of ten times, so I'm not sure what was wrong. After grub.config modification (I've added nomodeset to the kernel load) it boots normally (w/o changing the mode). The way I install Debian; I use netinst to get the base system & than I use my script to get only components that I ...

Re: How to remove chrome and install debian

Thanx, it is a good link.
I'll try to get Debian on this HW. This laptop; Googlebook seems to be a decent hardware for a very cheep price. Google probably is chipping in to every unit; software is very intrusive. It would be nice to have freedom with Debian. I'll try to post my experience with this HW & Debian, but in the mean time if you encounter some additional info, pls. let us know. Thenx.

Re: Why no more Xdialog on squeeze?

Zenity is a subset (more or less) of Xdialog. Probably 1/3 to ½ of Xdialog code is implemented into zenity. Widgets such; “2inputsbox” where you can input username & password in one box, “buildlist” where you can build file list and many other boxes are implemented in Xdialog, but not in zenity. Also more options are available for existing widgets in Xdialog. In my case I miss tailbox in zenity where you can monitor progress in more details. There is always philosophical question; can you use ...

Re: Why no more Xdialog on squeeze?

Yep, It is quite old & according to some old bug report, it does not compile (well) with the new xlib.
Thierry Godefroy (Xdialog maintainer) badmouth Debian that it is rigid packaging policy and not a software fault (BTW I like Debian for its packaging). It is too bad, but there is nothing that replaces Xdialog (dialog & whiptail are terminal and not the X programs). I'll try to compile Xdialog & see what happen.

Thanx for help.

Why no more Xdialog on squeeze?

What is the reason to drop Xdialog from the new release; is any replacement on the horizon? (beside zenity that is really crippled version of Xdialog).

Thanx for any info.
