If you have a recent kernel, the kernel driver r8169 works, perfectly. But if you have an old kernel, you need to find and install driver r8168. This usually means compiling from source.

Re: slow boot process after update to systemd
To find out what is taking so long, run "systemd-analyze blame". To see more detail about what is waiting for what, run "systemd-analyze plot > somefilename.svg". You can view the svg file in most web browsers.

Re: Adding a 4 TB HD to Debian Wheezy
If you create a new GPT partition table, it will "remove" all partitions from the entire drive. If you have data you need to keep, you need to make sure you have good backups. As you have already noted, you must use GPT to be able to utilize all of the drive's space, otherwise, you may as ...

Re: Wireless connection dropping when I unplug ethernet cabl
Is routing set up correctly on the wireless connection? Maybe all the routing is being provided by the other connection, so when it is dropped, routing is lost. I'm only guessing, here.

PS - Are you sure that wireless connection is active? The stats show no packets transmitted or received.

Re: Present Status of WM; especially OB
I prefer Openbox, anyway. It does everything I need and in ways that I like. I'm not even using a system tray, now. I startx into a plain, solid-color screen. I use either the right-click menu or programmed key-combos to start stuff. Tim PS - Maybe it is just that the news is not being maintained. A...

Re: Systemd is slow?
I have two ideas you can try. First, if you are not using lvm, disable its services. Second, configure your network with a static IP and disable dhcpcd service (you can revert those changes later, if you want). Then, re-test your startup.

According to this article, a future release of systemd takes on the functionality of DNS caching and is moving toward the elimination of VT emulation. It is subsuming everything!

I used to use aliases, a lot, but now I avoid them. When you come to depend on them, you start forgetting the actual commands.

Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B Ethernet not working
My computer has that chipset and I went through all the troubles with it for the first couple of years I had it. I must have compiled that Realtek driver a thousand times! So, my first question is, what Linux kernel are you running? The built in kernel driver r8169 has worked well on kernels after 3...

Re: WLAN Stick wich is most supported for all Linux Distros
I bought a nice, new Belkin F9L1108-TG 2.4 / 5 gHz model. It is NOT supported except with an experimental driver from GitHub. But, with that driver, it flies!

Re: Boot GPT partition from BIOS (non-EFI)
Your boot bios partition should be at the beginning of the disk, but it must be within some particular "distance" of the beginning. I don't remember what that is, at the moment. I always make it the first partition, though. It should be about 2 MB in size. I have never had any trouble boot...

Re: Irssi - Only root?
Copy the .irssi folder to your home directory. Make sure the irssi program is in your userid's PATH. I can't think of anything else that would prevent it from working - irssi is simplicity, itself.

Re: Asus n13 rtl8192cu install trouble
First, is it a PCI adapter and does your system "see" it? If it is PCI, run "lspci -v" as root. If it shows in the output, is there a line that says "Kernel driver in use:"?
