There are a lot of articles out there on troubleshooting booting issues in linux.
Try some of them.
You indicated there are other messages you are getting.
Can you give more info?

As the topic suggests is sudo preferred ?
If it is why isn't it setup on install?
What is the preferred method to set it up (instructions)?

I haven't went from 9 to 11. But when I have done something similar I made sure I copied my config files so I could reference them to build the new ones. I use iRedmail on a mail server so that is a little different to upgrade. If I were you I would make a new partition for 11 and build it separate....

I turned off my 2.4 Ghz on my router to see if that would help.
I read something about bluetooth interference with 2.4 Ghz wireless.
