nmap never updates scriptdb
This has been a sore for many many years, nmap does not update the scripts when launching nmap --script-updatedb from ANY debian i EVER tried. I cannot find a workaround, just old bug reports that this is fixed. Why oh why, is this not ever working on debian. I expected an update-nmap-db command to ...

Re: Grsecurity/Pax installation on Debian GNU/Linux
Hi, thanks for the once more lengthy response. I'm not sure if i agree, grsec should be simple enough to get started.
I'll work on a simple yet effective procedure if i manage to fix this current challenge.

Re: Grsecurity/Pax installation on Debian GNU/Linux
sorry to barge in like this, i've spent time on grsec with Debian before and it was a bit steep at first, then it seemed to work well for me. Now, on a laptop, i cannot get it to work well. I had to recompile the intel ethernet module from intel sources because it seemed buggy, now i have network. B...

How to map all filesystem permissions ( ACL only )
Because i ran into this stupid stupid situation of having all files on a system chown and chmod ( because .* expands .. into the upper directory ) The below command should be ran as root or other privileged user if need be. This will print all ACL based information on the filesystem and dump it into...

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
systemd has all aspects of an ideological take-over. I've never grasped why on earth anyone would use avahi by default either.

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
I'd rather prefer kernel dark matter integration at the network layer supporting more acceptable levels of interstellar gravitational stability. You must be joking. Any dark matter directly integrated into the kernel will not only rip appart the network layer supporting more acceptable levels of in...

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
Personally I do not endorse systemd, i feel compassion for anyone who's confronted with it.edbarx wrote:When Tomazzi succeeds to patch systemd to make its code more robust, it will be time for some testing but all this depends on how systemd will play with the CLI and OS flexibility.

Re: change of tune
Indeed comparison with music is terrific! Music can be made by everyone to everyone. And we always carry an instrument with us. Thanks, the idea is, when a musician plays a score ( the code ) it is offering the product ( a binary ) as any quick google may show the score is mostly only charded for t...

Open Source and Free Software should start aluding to music rather than beer. Stay positive.

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
Thank's for trolling again Tomazzi. Does it pay well ? The lack of separation between OSS and FOSS is very clear to me, please reread the thread to find at least two violations not mine. Yeah, well, open source companies don't hire me because i'm a troll, or at least, they want me to be. And yes, it...

Deflecting an open discussion as a generalization remains a deflection. Yawn. Something new you mean ?

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
Just to nitpick a little, Linux Developpers are possibly more plausible to get paid than Open Source Software developpers. I get it Linux could by a metaphor for OSS devs but it is a very different market.

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
*ouch* systemd is a political takeover, not the fittest. I've hated both avahi as well as pulseaudio. Avahi because it is a mess and pulseaudio because it took ages to see it stable in any distro. Systemd sounds like the sad start of the death of the sysadmin occupation, it breaths "developers ...

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
As i'm considering to write and maybe release some software i'm seriously considering creative commons as the license of choice. On the other hand, including an ethical manifesto with the GPL may be just what is required to give it true meaning. Almost a decade ago when speaking with socialists i wa...

This is indeed the off-topic forum.
My bet is the author is Richard Stallman...
I'm not sure about these claims though, sounds awkward given the state of Gentoo. rxvt-unicode is in there and supported.

When people claim Gentoo is what Debian used to be about i tend to agree. Hard to start, great to work with I've only tried Sabayon thus far.

Re: I was right, open-source sucks
Free and open source software is an invitation for anyone with some programming skill to improve it, while closed source software, can only be improved by those who own the source. This openess makes it much more accessible, because it can be modified and improved by everyone . The fact that the so...
