Man dude that is too weird. It kinda looks more like a hardware problem, but if your windows works.... It is possible that the burned CD is wonky somehow. ( It wouldn't be the first time ) Maybe try re-downloading and reburning a CD cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc <downloaded iso file> (replace /dev/hdc with ...

garrincha First let me apologize, I realize that my comment was harsh to say the least. I'm sorry. Actually though the nvidia way takes less than a minute. At the end though all I really care about is that it works - without creating other complications. But really, this is like a apt-get vs aptitud...

FYI newbies if you're reading this post, the correct way to do it the Debian way for legacy driver Hmmm that sounds a little ugh microsoftish to me. But what do I know. Maybe it is the intention of Debian to become the Microsoft of Linuxes - Our way or the highway. If that day ever comes... no no i...

Hmmm
I always do a manual install with the nvidia drivers from nvidia.com.
I don't know the m-a method.
I do know that the nvidia driver installer doesn't like "conflicting" files, which means that all of the older installation needs to be completely purged before reinstalling.

Configure and install new kernel,

uninstall nvidia module
install nvidia module
modprobe nvidia
startx.
Maybe your nvidia module isn't loaded?

Are both set up to use the same protocols? I don't know mac, but I remember that in winders the linux had to be set to "local" because winders rewrites the system clock to localtime. So are both on UTC, or local and are both pointing at the exact same timezone? cat /etc/timezone cat /etc/d...

Did you try googling? Here are some links http://xjqian.wordpress.com/2007/11/13/chinese-fonts-in-debian/ http://isis.poly.edu/~qiming/chinese-debian-mini-howto.html I still think that your .fonts.conf is overkill. Generally speaking nothing on linux is that complicated to configure. Yours looks mor...

Ok if I understand, you want to install PClinux2007 to another partition using the hard disk installation method. Most linux distros can do this: Debian is easy, you put kernel, initram and iso on HDD, point grub at it and reboot. Then the iso is autodetected. Some others, like Archlinux, the iso ne...

I glanced at the wine-doors website - looks interesting but it's not yet in any Debian repository. From what I've seen some people have tried to build it from source, but ran into errors.
Give it some time - if it becomes great stuff, then it will find it's way into Debian.
