Re: 4D696B65

So, let me get this straight... You folks start a proposal about a subforum, it's declined. milipond goes over to insulting systemd and Debian users for the umpteenth time, the post goes off-topic and is locked by 4D... Then milipond starts a new thread on how 4D... is rude. It's sad that, ins...

Oooh, the dumb Lennartard Masses (TM) that we regularly mock and meet with bile, but now ask to offer us a subforum ( ) On a more serious note: If you don't have active participation on an already up and running forum, what makes you think opening a subforum in this one will increase that acti...

Re: Nemo File manager + My computer side bar

Wasn't there a user here having the opposite problem, where they tried to get rid of the default folders, but the system just kept recreating them? I think they had found what configuration file did that.

Re: A new UEFI gottcha

Who cares who started it? As if effing over your customers were invented in the US. Modern capitalism goes all the way back to the Medici and greed and deception goes back even further. This model is in place in every country. If non-Americans are allegedly so innocent, why is this business model a ...

Re: Why is LXDE losing its popularity among Linux users?

Ehmmm.... Somebody missed that the LXDE and Razorq DE projects merged in one single project LXQT... http://lxqt.org/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LXQt Ehmmm.... Somebody missed half the thread: Here you go this is from last July and it is quoting one of the developers that pcman put in charge of L...

Re: Why is LXDE losing its popularity among Linux users?

I use Xfce because of 1 thing: Thunar has the custom action thing. If pcmanfm had that, I'd rather use LXDE since I think Openbox is a leaner WM as Xfwm and the DE itself has less overhead. It has everything an advanced user would need and a lot of other UI stuff can be borrowed from other leaner DE...

Re: New to debian, a few observations

4K support is sadly still a bit poor on Linux in general, albeit Gnome from 3.18 should be really good with it, as is KDE with versions 5 and up. None of those are in stable Debian yet, so maybe stick with Ubuntu or some other distro that has newer drivers and UIs for now? Debian Stretch should get ...

Re: As a power user what problems can I face with testing?

Arch is more like Sid, also in the sense that errors are corrected more quickly, whereas in Testing they can linger on for a while until the fix in Sid is stable enough for the Testing release. Sometimes this can take a week, sometimes much longer. Again, as many have said here before, the main purp...

Re: What internet browser to replace iceweasel/firefox?

And probably because it's based on Webkit and therefore has potentially nasty security holes. Debian 8 includes several browser engines which are affected by a steady stream of security vulnerabilities. The high rate of vulnerabilities and partial lack of upstream support in the form of long term br...

What if the video card drivers have issues with compositing? I know it shouldn't be on by default in Debian, but does it change anything if it's on/off?

Re: As a power user what problems can I face with testing?

Firefox or Thunderbird are not available from the official Debian repository which only provides the free fork versions, namely, Iceweasel and Icedove so if you prefer the Mozilla versions, then why not stick with Ubuntu for these and other more recent software packages? You make it sound as though...

Re: Debian Jessie FGLRX performance and video playback issue

Sorry, I can't help you with the issue of multiple monitors. I also have the screen issues on Iceweasel or other browsers. I think it's a bug between Iceweasel and the open source drivers. Haven't found a solution for this yet, sadly. :( In my case, it's only the browser, so I can usually ignore it....

Re: Debian Jessie FGLRX performance and video playback issue

That's the issue most Linux users with ATI cards have to deal with: On the one hand, the open source drivers give you 80% of the performance if you're lucky. On the other, they're really stable and have almost no problems with video or desktop 3d effects. The proprietary drivers are much better at r...

Re: A new UEFI gottcha

I was always saying that systemd is not ready for serious deployments - it's still in unstable or at best testing stage of the development. However this time, I'm agreeing with Poettering: this is not a systemd bug - it's the UEFI. Even 20 years ago, when the BIOS settings were damaged (usually due...

Then root@debian002:/home/dionisio/Descargas# sh hplip-3.16.2.run No, you either install the one in Synaptic or run sh hplip-whatever to install it by hand. Both at...
