Re: [Software] Can't install private internet access
Open Synaptic - Under Settings>Repositories First tab - make sure the first four boxes are checked Second tab - delete cdrom item Click close. Then reload when prompted. Close Synaptic. Open Terminal. Now just be sure to include the entire path of the pia install file after the initial sh and it sho...

Re: [Solved] How do I get rid of unwanted entries in GRUB boot menu?
In case this has not been mentioned - For those of us who are gui folks, I always install nautilus-admin when first setting up Debian. That way, via Nautilus, I can edit any grub or other file I want with ease via (right click on the file) Open As Administrator.

Re: Would it be risky to attempt de-installing ipp-usb ?
Thank you but been there done that. HL-L2390DW . The ipp-usb identified printer is slow and clunky at best. Sane-airscan is slow and identifies two separate scanners, both with the wrong model number. One borks the computer, one is broken. The scanner graphics for simple-scan do not work. Deleting i...

Re: Would it be risky to attempt de-installing ipp-usb ?
I have a brother laser printer that is not on a good relationship, so to speak, with ipp-usb and sane-airscan. I delete them and install the brother laser printer driver in the repo. Works great.

As I sit down to do my taxes this year, I again revisit a frustrating topic that I have posted in many a debian-derivative distro over the years. My quest is to see the greatest calculator I've ever found for the common man (no mega-techno degrees in math etc) who just wants to duplicate what the ta...

Re: Using my Cannon MP240 printer
For my MP 560 I found canon's Austrailia site to be the most helpful (I live in the US).
http://support-au.canon.com.au/P/search ... g_os=Linux
I downloaded both the driver and scangear .deb files. Both work flawlessly.

The exaile shoutcast plugin is screwed up too. Streamtuner will not tune in Shoutcast either.

I just installed the latest libreOffice RC. On my Dell Inspiron 530N it loads markedly faster than the OpenOffice that is included with Squeeze. Anybody else had this or other recent experience with it?

54 - just 5 short months until I get my Sr Citizen's card at the grocery store. That 5% off is a real treat with the cost of groceries.

Re: kde4 now in Lenny repos?
Boy did I ever muck up my question attempt. My apologies. Let me try again. Did the repos (Lenny stable main config non-free and/or multimedia) for Lenny stable change yesterday am to drop some kde 3.5 apps and add several kde 4.3 apps? My sources list looks the same as Synaptic indicated it should ...

kde4 now in Lenny repos?
As of this morning, I see some kde4.3 apps are now in the lenny repos. For instance, when I installed hp-gui this am, synaptic uninstalled konqeror for 3.5. When I attempted to undo this unrequested removal, both hp-gui and konqueror for 4.3 would not install. Being a bit paranoid, I triple-checked ...

Re: OpenMotif installed, but Aventail VPN not seeing ICAClient
I'm not knowledgeable of how to resolve the error codes, but this might be worth trying to see if it resolves the problem. Mepis' repo has the icaclient. I added "deb ftp://mepis.com/mepis mepis-8.0 main" to my repository list just for the icaclient. I installed it via Synaptic and it runs...

Go go system>administration>users and groups. Enter root password. Highlight your user id and click properties. Put a check in configure printers box. That should cure the user permission denied issue.

Re: The right character tendencies to use Linux and be happy.
I am finding that for anyone to use Linux and be contented with it, one must have a character that helps one do research, be capable of perseverance and have some inclination for technology. All my wife and two of my best friends (they just want it to work like Windows for word processing, web use,...

Re: How to Install Nvidia Graphic Card Driver?
No offense intended with this next comment if I'm misreading your reply - If you're also new to Linux - not just Debian - I''d suggest starting out with Mepis rather than Debian. It has a more automated process for installing drivers etc. Learning Linux was easier for me starting there. I'm not the ...
