Re: Grsecurity/Pax installation on Debian GNU/Linux

Outstanding stuff!!! It's a real pity that debian's security is so shamefully disregard (let's face it, comparing to gentoo, debian is a helpless little girl - last time I checked debian's gradm didn't even work, I had to copiled it from source  ). THANK YOU! BTW why this thread is not sticky y...

Re: persistent storage with the live debian iso.

That's what I normally do, but since it's a few GB and pendrive speeds are just horrible, some other option would be nice.

Re: persistent storage with the live debian iso.

that's not the way to do a live image on a large pendrive which you also may want to use as multi-platform data storage!
What is the "proper" way to do that then? (I need to copy new debian live iso to usb without erasing existing persistence partition)

Riseup mail invitation

Not related to Debian but... I just received an invitation to Riseup mail ( https://riseup.net/en ) from my friend, but it turns out that one needs to have 2 invitations from 2 different persons to register an account there. So I thought maybe someone here have a spare one for me  I would be v...

Re: "firmware-linux-nonfree" package question

Well indeed I am one of "those" persons  I have additional AMD gpu in my laptop which is completely redundant for me, and I just need this firmware to disable it via vgaswitcheroo. I don't feel very comfortable having all this non-free crap on my machine, especially if 99% of it is c...

Re: Jessie KDE 4.8.4 extremely slow start

It turned out to be iptables' fault.
I've accidentally deleted one of "ACCEPT" rules for loopback interface.
Thank you for tips anyway.

"firmware-linux-nonfree" package question

I need to install "firmware-linux-nonfree" package to make my radeon work properly, but I've noticed that this package contains huge amount of stuff I do not need.
Is the a way to install just the driver I want?

Jessie KDE 4.8.4 extremely slow start

Setup: clean minimal Jessie install + aptitude install xorg kde-plasma-desktop KDE loading procedure is extremely slow (~5 min). On splash screen the harddrive icon pops up immediately but then the rest of the icons won't show up for the next few minutes (and the last K-icon even longer). When deskt...

Re: Installer stuck at partitioning.

You don't understand - the problem is, when I do that, it just keeps returning to partitioning instead of move forward to next step (base system installation). I tried in virtualbox - same thing. Partitions are set up properly (encryption, logical volumes etc) it just can not go any further. I'm pre...

Installer stuck at partitioning.

Jessie - encrypted LVM installation.

Code: Select all

/boot - unencrypted
encrypted LVM:
    root
    home
    swap
After applying all changes (partition format etc) without any errors, installer just keeps getting back to partitioning menu. It just doesn't want to proceed with installation. How to fix this?

Re: Encrypted LVM install

Oh I didn't notice that you have 2 hdds. In this case you'll need additional LVM layer. In debian partitioning tool create: 1. /boot partition (on pendrive if you like) 2. Desired partition on your first hdd (let's say sda1) (primary or logical doesn't matter) 3. Desired partition on your second hdd...

Re: Encrypted LVM install

What is the best way of having as little of my file system non-encrypted as possible while still allowing a proper boot? (If that question makes sense!) Whole system in encrypted LVM is probably the best solution. Just remember that the attacker who have physical access to your machine can easily m...
