The home for root is not /, it is /root.
When you did
cd ~
You moved to /root, not /, so the directory you wanted to copy couldn't be found.

The "random DD," Bastian Venthur, is holding to his June 2009 prediction. I'm holding to my January prediction, as well. Only difference is that mine was pulled pretty much from thin air, and his is supported by a fancy graph. Ooh! Ooh! Is this a pool? Can I get in? $5 on Nov. 15th.

I am going to be honest enough to admit my actions don't always line up with my intentions. I lived in Thailand for many years. Anyone who has visited there knows that piracy is rampant there (in both meanings of the word, though I'm talking about copyright infringement). In addition to piracy, ther...

I meant that it was the point I was going to make. I wasn't being snooty or anything.

As far as I know, you can mount those two partitions at boot even after you've set up the system fully so it's still an option for you. Nothing should fail. Set up the fstab and reboot.

Your problem is that the Debian repo wants to install some dependencies. Those dependencies conflict with the dependencies of something in the Xandros distro, and Apt can't resolve the problem without removing half of your system. You can dig down forther and further in the failed dependencies (thos...

I'm pretty sure it's "console-tool" not "console tool."

Secondly, you can use the keyboard layout indicator in Gnome and configure it to use your two keyboard layouts.

Finally, you can put the keyboard and switcher into the xorg.conf.

Agreed. There's almost no difference between Sid and Lenny right now. Once Lenny is released, I expect there to be a flood into Sid.

You just made my point for you. You partition holding /var is erroring out and being remounted RO. You need to fix that. I assume taht you can work with the flash drive ro all the time and only mount it rw for upgrades. Then you can mount a ram disk over the /var and /tmp areas. That should fix your...

http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2006-June/msg00764.html It's a kernel 2.6.17.1 issue. Are you using the latest Lenny Beta 2? You can just download the latest kernel / initrd.gz for the Lenny installer and use Grub to boot them. Since the current kernel is 2.6.26-1, the install shoul...

If you give any credence to anything BoycottNovell says, you need to have your brain examined. They coat their houses in tin foil, they're so paranoid.

You may want to remove Mono, but please don't let BN be the ones to convince you.

My friend had a Clix a couple of years ago. The solution was to unmount the device. I think this is your problem.

When the Clix is connected and disconnected several times, it goes into USB mass storage mode. When that happens, the Clix is mounted. You need to unmount it to make it charge.
