Re: hdmi audio on Asrock Z370M Pro4

I'm gonna take a WAG and say it's lacking some needed firmware. Did you use the installer with non-free firmware included? http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/ Alternatively, you could try searching for the specific firmware package needed, but it might be eas...

I have no clue as to the newbie's use case. But a dearth of supporting information WRT questions on forums like this is de rigueur.

Re: How do I overwrite RAM with Random Data on shutdown?

You might be surprised at some of the over-the-top security requirements I've seen placed on very high level U.S. Government systems. I'll always remember the one time caching disk controllers had to be shipped via special courier with chain-of-custody paperwork, despite like you said, there was lit...

Re: Who is using old laptops, thanks to linux?

An 8-year-old HP DV7 has been the Snort machine, monitoring my home LAN 100Mb cable modem link 24/7 for the past 3 years. It's on it's 3rd battery and will run on the power supply alone when that gives up the ghost. Should be interesting to see how long it will last in this role, but I wouldn't try ...

Have you re-accomplished RAID setup on the SSD's by clearing the partition tables and creating new raid partitions?

It looks like the performance hit runs around an average of 3%, depending on (obviously) numerous factors, with Intel chips seeing the worst of it: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12678/a- ... en-results

No - don't do that! Unless there is some bugfix or feature you want from new Mobo firmware.

I'm talking about looking in packages for firmware. Use your package management tool of choice and search for firmware.

The list of M$ engineering department failures is much longer than the success story list. I wouldn't be too worried about it just yet.
