Re: Favorite DE/WM in Wheezy
As of now... it would have to be i3.
I do love KDE, but I hate the long login/startup times.

Re: Favorite Window Manager?
Openbox or Fluxbox. Fluxbox does look better immediately after install - a fresh install of Openbox looks hideous. Openbox is quicker and more easily customised though.

- Ubuntu 9.10 to 12.04 - Snowlinux (Debian-based ed.) 3.1 /4 - Debian 7 - In a VM: Arch Linux - If I had to use another distro, it would probably be this. Gentoo - Minimal install is time-consuming but not too difficult. Then I tried to compile KDE Meta. :( Linux from Scratch - For masochists and gl...

Re: Startup script and updates
I found what I needed - KDE System Settings > Software Management > Settings.
Not ideal - I would rather do this as a part of a script - but it'll do.
Thanks anyway

Startup script and updates
I don't know if this is the right place to post. If not, I apologise. I would like to write a start-up script that performs a few tasks automatically. However - one of the things I would like to do is automatically update my system with: sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade My compu...

Re: Tips from our Members
Practice installing it first. Install Debian as a guest OS in a virtual machine. Play with it and mess around a bit. Once you know exactly how to go and install it to a real hard drive parition, do so. If you're not sure or confident, then you need to mess around more. Read : Debian-Reference, Debia...

Re: Why do you use debian?
"My point being: are you happy that those browsers I mentioned do the same thing, with regards to google?" Quite frankly, no. If someone wants my information, then it should be with my consent. I have selected "Do not Track" in Iceweasel - if you have any other suggestions, pleas...

Re: Why do you use debian?
I do use Iceweasel. There's no point in boycotting it - it is completely open-source. The only part of Firefox that is proprietary is the Firefox branding and associated symbols - none of which are in Iceweasel. I've not used Seamonkey / Iceape, and I really don't like Chromium or Opera. As for the ...

Re: Favorite DE/WM in Wheezy
Updated post - Sunday 4 August 2013 KDE 4.8 - Beautiful with good desktop effects and tons of Plasma / SuperKaramba add-ons. Somewhat sluggish. Razor-QT 0.5.2 - Responsive and looks pretty slick even after install and before modification. Openbox 3.5 - Looks hideous immediately after install. After ...

Quite honestly, neither. I use KDE Software Compilation. Failing that, XFCE set up to look like Gnome 2.

Re: Why do you use debian?
Reasons I use Debian: I used Ubuntu previously. I quit using Ubuntu for several major reasons: - Ethical / Moral reasons. I do not want to use a distro that searches Amazon as well as the desktop. I love the Debian Social Contract idea too. - Security. If Canonical have decided to allow Amazon to ad...
