Re: Sid: dpkg cannot configure network manager 1.8.4-1

network-manager did not fully configure in Thursday's upgrade. Every time I did an upgrade after that dpkg would try to configure it which stopped the service. For some unknown reason, rebooting brought the wireless network back up. The solution was to purge network-manager and reinstall. I had to m...

Re: Sid: dpkg cannot configure network manager 1.8.4-1

Well,
I guess that's what I get for trying to upgrade when I'm in a hurry. When I got home and booted up network-manager worked fine. Then I upgraded another computer running sid and had no issues. I'm not sure what happened but all is good. Thanks for looking in on me.

SOLVED: Sid: dpkg cannot configure network manager 1.8.4-1

Network Manager is broken after this morning's upgrade. I didn't have time to file a bug report, but will file one when I get home this evening. Edit: I also did not have time to research the issue which I will later. dpkg timed out trying to configure the package. I ran: # dpkg --configure network-...

Re: [unstable] grave bug in udisks2

I saw the bug, but went ahead and updated anyway. It did take a bit longer to get a Desktop than usual, but nothing like you experienced. Hopefully the bug will be fixed on the next update.

Re: phpmyadmin: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

I never login to mariadb from phpmyadmin as root. in a terminal I logged in to mariadb as root. I created a user and granted all privileges with grant privilege. When I login to phpmyadmin, I use the regular user name I created.

Re: Howto: CLI Weather Forecast

Thanks,
I like the cli weather report. One question: How do you enter the name of a city with two names like "New York"? I entered New York and got the weather report for York, UK.

Edit: I got it. Looked at the wttr.in site in github: https://github.com/chubin/wttr.in
$New+York.

Re: Is this the correct/good way to upgrade to Sid?

I haven't posted here in years but was once a regular. I read the comments in this thread with much amusement. You see, I have used Sid exclusively on all my machines, except my server, for almost 10 years. I don't think Sid is something to be afraid of but I also don't think it's for the faint of h...

No need to dive for cover. When it's ready is the standard answer. :)

Re: i915 drivers

I am using a stock (dell) machine with i3 quad core and integrated graphics. I could not get my machine to work properly until I got to kernel 3.12. Performance has improved with each subsequent kernel release. I would recommend that you install debian jessie (testing). The kernel version is 3.16 an...

Re: Can't connect through wifi

To see what driver you have installed execute as root:

Code: Select all

lspci -vnn
and post the results for your wireless interface here.

Edit: I suspect that you do not have a driver installed. Look at the wl Debian Wiki.

Re: install old debian version

It makes sense, but I miss some of the older apps so between woody, sarge, etch and lenny, which one would you choose...? Thanks I think that the reason you are not getting an acceptable answer is that no one here can recommend any of the options in your list. The older versions are not any more st...

Re: install old debian version

Thanks. What I really want is a old Debian version for my sensitive files, encryption and stuff like this, which will not be connected at LAN or Internet, but it should be very stable and capable of handling large files up to 750GB and larger USB-Sticks, and use not too much RAM. Another thing is t...
