I like that, keeping your internet connected devices in incognito mode, I may start doing that in the future!wizard10000 wrote: ↑2024-02-24 15:51 If I had internet-facing machines I'd be naming them differently, as IMO best practice is for the hostname to *not* reflect the machine's function.

Re: Why do you use debian?
Every time I try another distribution, I find myself coming back to this one. Did the Ubuntu thing, came back. Did the Arch thing, and its cousins, and came back. Even used Alpine Linux and came back. Nobody could ever say I haven't tried getting out of my comfort zone with regards to Desktop Linux...

Hi alienspy, thanks for your reply, the thing that baffles me is that I have Debian 12 on my main PC too, that is a desktop with an MSI Mobo with Intel graphics, is the same operative system and desktop environment on both, the same packages installed and that PC doesn't have this kind of issue, the...

Re: What helped/encouraged you to increase your Linux understanding?
I was so sick of Windows XP problems and headaches that I needed to try another OS, so this system called Linux allowed me to have more control and the best part it was free so what I had to loose, I'm very glad I took that step! BTW... My resources were the internet and lots of trial and error and ...

Re: Howto: Installing and configuring Debian Bullseye
A word of caution: If you have uninstalled a package belonging to a larger metapackage with, say, your desktop environment, it will be marked for uninstallation with autoremove, and you'll end up with a command line interface. It is a powerful tool, so don't blindly press yes to remove whatever com...

Re: system gradually slows down and eventually stops
@ OP: I suspect problem is the "tracker-miner" Gnome thingy, a while ago I was using Gnome as my DE and it made my system very sluggish when it was running, I had to disable it to make system usable again! Do you have a swap partition on your system & how much space is it? It's your CP...

Testing the final before release to the mirrors. Such good news to read. Music to my ears. It's like Christmas in August. I for one want to say the following: This is one-hell-of-an accomplishment. Thank you to everyone who worked on this project: every day, every hour, every moment. Thank you for ...
