This is because XFCE from Jessie pulls in a lot of dependencies, which means you'll end up with a mixed stable/jessie system. As you can attest this is utterly broken so I'd suggest a reinstall to Jessie. Mixing wheezy with jessie is ONLY done by careful apt-pinning, dependency checking and backport...

Did you choose the desktop task on install? The login and password are those you choose on install. You can't install debian without specifying a login and password.
