Re: Is it MATE stable enough to be used in Wheezy?
I'm using MATE 1.8 in Wheezy some time now. There's a definite improvement over MATE 1.6 - a working help function, hot corners, bug fixes. But there's a few rough edges (e.g caja is still not as stable as nautilus, compositor quirks, problems in debian packaging) that support the official MATE stan...

Re: udisks and udisks2
Yes, that I believe works, but it tampers with system settings, which I prefer to avoid if possible. # echo 'ACTION=="add", ATTR{removable}=="1", ATTR{events_poll_msecs}=="-1", ATTR{events_poll_msecs}="2000"' >> /lib/udev/rules.d/61-removable-storage-polling....

I assume nothing happens because you no longer have the previous package.

Re: HOWTO install infinality font-settings for Debian
The LD_PRELOAD settings are deprecated so you might as well remove them (I've had problems in chroots and after uninstalling infinality).
Code: Select all
# rm /etc/profile.d/freetype-infinality.sh

Re: building intel-va driver and mplayer-vaapi
Thanks for your help, stevepusser. I've simply installed mpv from the MEPIS 12 testing repo : apt-get install -t wheezy-backports libavcodec-extra-54 libavfilter3 libavformat54 libswscale2 apt-get install -t mepis mpv Then enabled vaapi ~/.mpv$ cat config # Hardware Decoding hwdec=vaapi vo=opengl Br...

Re: building intel-va driver and mplayer-vaapi
Compiling mplayer-vaapi from git didn't work for me - I got some error about ffmpeg (and yes, it did check out ffmpeg successfully). As stevepusser suggested, I compiled from the Precise PPA, and it works except for dpkg-genchanges. With cowbuilder I get dpkg-deb: building package `mencoder-vaapi' i...

Re: Radeon VDPAU r600_drv_video.so hack?
I found myself backporting stuff a bit too often so I switched. The error I get is: $ cat test-suite.log ======================================= libvdpau 0.7: test/test-suite.log ======================================= # TOTAL: 1 # PASS: 0 # SKIP: 0 # XFAIL: 0 # FAIL: 1 # XPASS: 0 # ERROR: 0 .. cont...

Re: Radeon VDPAU r600_drv_video.so hack?
Under jessie I have linux 3.12.9, xf86-video-ati 7.3.0 and libdrm 2.4.52-1 which seems to match git, except for the kernel (which is currently 3.12.10). When compiling libvdpau 0.7 from git the build fails with that same error message.... Right now I'm compiling mesa 10.1, maybe it will help - and h...

Re: Debian Jessie on Armada E500
This is because XFCE from Jessie pulls in a lot of dependencies, which means you'll end up with a mixed stable/jessie system. As you can attest this is utterly broken so I'd suggest a reinstall to Jessie. Mixing wheezy with jessie is ONLY done by careful apt-pinning, dependency checking and backport...

Re: I cannnot start the computer after first Debian instalat
Did you choose the desktop task on install? The login and password are those you choose on install. You can't install debian without specifying a login and password.
Otherwise hard to tell with this little information.

Re: Radeon VDPAU r600_drv_video.so hack?
I did it the hard way, by recompiling mesa with --enable-vdpau, but got the same "Inconsistency" error. It didn't affect playing videos itself, but after playback mplayer broke with an "Oops, something wrong happened". It disappeared by using an old version of libvdpau1 (0.4-4 to...

You could have also tried the stable+non-free image.

So what you're saying is you installed firmware-iwlwifi but still get the error?
The first result in Google! for "iwlwifi-2030-5.ucode debian" gives:

What's a Zbox?
Wheezy/XFCE uses ALSA by default. So unless you installed Pulseaudio or something, look here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AL ... leshooting
For wifi, Debian separates free from non-free drivers. So add the non-free repository and install the correct firmware package.

Re: Debian "Pure Blends" Concept
Debian Stable for the desktop has lots of rough edges yes, and it can be a tight rope to walk. But when you see it isn't affected by all the unexplicable crashes and other issues hard to diagnose in Ubuntu&Co, you know what to give your poor user. Following an anecdote here, if your friend is on...

If the module compiled correctly, try (like the installer says)
Code: Select all
