A lot it seems. You have package managment problems. You do not cd to rar. You don't use unrar to extrat gzipped tar files.

If I recall correctly apt-get ignores aptitude holds too but apt-mark seems to work for apt-get, aptitude and synaptic. I never recommend mixing stable and any other flavor, much better to go with a backport.

The best way to figure out pinning/prefs is to configure it and then check and see if it does what you want.

a - open a terminal, su to root, use the adduser command

I would expect gnome shell to crap itself if you run it from within kde.

Where did you get compiz (and why?) from. I would eliminate that 'extra' first if I was trying to figure out what was causing problems. Are you trying to run compiz with gnome?

install linux-firmware-nonfree and see if that helps
