[Tips] Enable suspend to RAM with Atheros AR9227 chipset on Debian 11

I installed a TPlink PCI wireless card on a desktop running Debian 11 AMD64, post that the suspend to RAM feature stopped working and the OS used to panic(likely) and reboot. Few days ago, I realized that with PCI passthrough and I could connect to the wireless network from a VM, thereby the host wi...

No feedback on compaq laptop soft touch keys.

Hi, I have installed Debian i386 on Compaq Presario v3611AU laptop. There are soft touch keys for volume control, which are getting detected and controls work after I set them in LXDE rc.xml The problem is regarding the mute key, the color changes to orange when audio is muted and blue when unmuted....

Re: How to recover an iso dd'ed into usb drive.

sorry i misunderstood. for copying iso files to usb sticks, the bs= can be up to 4M, as stated e.g. here and in other places. afaiu, it does not affect what is being copied, just speeds up things - so the bs= should be irrelevant for this particular use of dd. but don't quote me on that. ps: did yo...

Re: How to recover an iso dd'ed into usb drive.

Thanks all for your replies. And special thanks to M51 for the detailed explanation :) I will try this out once I get home and have time. Btw, dd process without "bs" is painfully slow :x so, you mean you accidentally dd'd your hard drive, the one that has debian installed, and can't boot ...

How to recover an iso dd'ed into usb drive.

I have dd'ed the Debian 7 i386 dvd image to a usb drive. I forgot to take a backup and formatted the machine. Then, I simply tried using dd on the usb to get back the iso, but the result was not a valid .iso file. dd if=/dev/sdb of=debian_i386_dvd1.iso ##For faster extraction I used bs=1M dd ...

Re: does tightvnc use ssh by default?

all i want is a remote desktop connection to my server from my home pc, that is secure... which is clearly a common use case; yet so far i am finding a bizarre mixture of failed advice and out-dated tutorials when i search the web. i have never created a vpn tunnel - if you have a link for that, wh...

Re: root login on ssh.

Looks like the first 3 lines were ambiguous. I will try to clear it.. :) su works fine. I can directly login as root without any issues on the VM/Console of the machine. I can "su -" on the VM/console once I log in as a normal uer. The issues are over ssh. I login as a normal user over ssh...

Re: does tightvnc use ssh by default?

If you want something which supports multiple protocols (X over ssh) and is easy to use, I will suggest winswitch.

root login on ssh.

Hi, I am running Debian 7 on virtualbox 4.2.12. I have configured the sshd_config to allow root login and allow empty password. But yet it fails. I mean, after I log in as a normal user I can't "su -" and when I directly "ssh root@server" it fails. It asks for the password in bot...
