How would the system be able to use the file when it's encrypted ?

Re: Protect a file from a sudoers User

[tongue-in-cheek]

Encrypting the configuration file will accomplish that.

[/tongue-in-cheek]

Seriously, wouldn't proper config of sudo for a given user prevent modification of critical configuration files?

Re: Protect a file from a sudoers User

I didn't notice any specification as to what type of protection was being discussed. Please forgive me if I missed it. In any case encryption is a simple way to protect a file from anyone. Not to mention that sudo can be configured for individual logins, allowing access to what is required and "...

Re: What's wrong with Debian and RMS?

Google is doing this, Facepalm is doing this, and Microshit is a king of the thieves - they have bought GitHub, and now they are stealing every single project which is worth attention, and which is licensed under a "permissive" terms - simply by forking it and changing the licencing terms...

Re: Quite pleased with Debian 11

I used Ubuntu for a while, but was a little disappointed with the lack of stability. Once I found Debian, I never looked back! Also, a similar thing happened with personal accounting software. Once I found GNUcash, that is all I use to keep track of my finances. Great stuff!

Re: Wouldn't it be possible to create a virus for Linux

I disagree. Replication may be significant for biological virus, but not necessarily for software virus, where replication may not be desired -> once You have infected the target system, You may not want to tell that fact to the rest of the world -> it depends on what system You have infected, and ...

Re: Wouldn't it be possible to create a virus for Linux

The most dangerous virus I've ever heard of was created by Boeing, implemented as a hidden functionality in flight control software in their aeroplanes -> it have killed hundreds of people (passengers) by crashing the aeroplanes, and no single member of that "hacker team" have landed in j...

Nope, your post count is too high!

I was considering trying it, but my darn post count is way too high. So far, I've only installed Debian Stable.

This site shows disrespect for debian and especially the developers. Should the subject line be "Disrespecting Debian" instead of "Debian disrespect"? Debian disrespect sounds like Debian is disrespecting us. Thanks to these developers I can install so called 'unstable' and then...

If you are refering to Windows Subsystem for Linux, you should ask on a Microsoft Windows forum.

Re: Stop making XFCE single CD images

USB was released in 1996. Almost every computer built in the past 20 years has USB. I have a few computers that don't have USB, they were put together from old spare parts that I had laying around. I'm not sure how old the parts are, but Debian runs well enough on the hardware to use. How many comp...
