Even life has changed since then. The prices are not the same as before, they have increased. The screens where we watch TV or monitors have grown.
This is life, always move forward.
If you download that ISO 699M will not work as did back in 2006.
By the way, current Debian 631 MB it is a small size. Install it without selecting anything from tasksel.
Once you're done, log in and install anything you need from the console. This way you will have a minimal system according to your preferences ...

Re: Which Browser do you use?
Back on Chrome, Exactly Unstable. My longevity in FF didn't last long since my above posts, on both Android and Linux, Firefox have higher memory and cpu usage versus Chrome.
Chrome is faster browser since the start of it, then to the usage.
Issued i had early with Chrome Fonts, i fixed by finding the correct fonts to use.
Issued with Manifest v3 fixed with uBOL. it's not like UBO, but good enough for my needs.

Re: Which Browser do you use?
FWIW I've used flagfox for this (and other useful shortcuts like traceroute and internet archive) for many years. While it isn't FOSS, my investigations (read: basic traffic analysis) make me fairly comfortable using it. YMMV of course.
Thanks for the Flagfox extension, I didn't know anything about it, but the description seems interesting reading as it covers several areas and information.
I suggest anyone remotely interested in maintaining a free and open web ditch chrome and derivatives ...

Re: Which Browser do you use?
Never ditch a browser for a few milliseconds more speed, there are other more important factors as you found out
When i posted my last message about Browser, i had been away from Firefox for several months. The reasons of my leaving were not just a matter of speed regardless of what i wrote.
Chromium have that options "right-click" menu translate page, that feature it is necessary for me. I remember Firefox to have a similar one as add-on, but wasn't adapted like Chromium, perhaps i should ...

Back to Mozilla Firefox. Chromium become unusable with Manifest V3 or with total blocking of Ublock Origin.
Chromium purged
Welcome back Mozilla Firefox

Re: Debian 12 works efficiently with older desktop computers.
On my then OptiPlex-330 from 2007 E8600 Core 2 Duo
Debian worked as a fine wine from 2015 to 2022.
A netinst ISO associated with openbox/tint2 or dwm/spectrwm it will probably go quitly nice until the end of the decade for the potato PC's.

Re: 4k@60hz don't work
That's an awesome Smart TV. Things to consider Adapter, Graphic Cards Upgrade/Newer additional (except for the Intel integrated), Quality Cable, A newer generates processor.
Many complaints for similar issues recommend to check about mostly cables.
On my old Tower i used to have 30Hz issues aswell because a faulty or other reasons HDMI to DP cable, i bought an Dell monitor U3223QE its display port was adapted immediately with desktop tower to 60Hz.
Does running this command makes any changes ...

Re: 4k@60hz don't work
Thanks!
I have tried Debian Live and Open Suse Live, both can't get 4k@60hz, but the funny part is the "live grub" is loaded on 60hz.
How I know?
Well my monitor have game bar were shows the FPS / HDR / VRR.
About the DP cable, it's DP -> HDMI because the monitor don't have DP ports only HDMI 2.1
About the DE/WM:
Wayland or X with Gnome or KDE can't load the resolution, i install both and tried both.
A few weeks ago I install latest Pop! OS, even that OS can't figured out to use the ...

Cable with both sides HDMI is okay too, i used to have an issue with an HDMI to DP wich i didn't know on my old tower.
Code: Select all

Re: Which is the worst distribution you have tried?
I have had only good experiences over the years with Linux OS'es, where i have failed somewhere, it was only because i made some stupid mistake.
Ubuntu, Mint, #!, BunsenLabs, Debian, Devuan, Alpine, Fedora and currently openSUSE. All these OS's have given me only fun and fulfilled my needs.

Make sure the heads on both sides are DP (display port) not DP to HDMI or both HDMI. DP standalone on both sides
- Monitor
Make sure monitor support DP port, also make sure you set it right to DP not to HDMI.

Re: Which Browser do you use?
I ditched Firefox for Chromium, i see a much better performance on the web pages, and especially in the browser launch. It also seems to me that it is more lightweight versus Firefox.
