Periodic stalls when writing large files to LUKS partition
Hello, I think about two years ago I started noticing periodic stalls when backing up large files (>1GB) on a computer running a zfs raid on LUKS. On my laptop, which has ext4 and swap on LUKS, I have periodic freezes of a VM running Windows, which last for about ten seconds to a minute. Then the VM...

Problem moving /home to zfs pool
I have just installed bullseye and set up an encrypted zpool. I use the bullseye version, not the one from the backports: root@TRILLIAN:~# zfs --version zfs-2.0.3-9 zfs-kmod-2.0.3-9 I copied the contents of my old /home from my backup to the HOME dataset of the zpool (which is called hpool), and the...

Re: Search term "zfs" is ignored. Why?
OK... did not see that. But is there a way to search for zfs? Edit: Just tried again. The error message saying that search terms need be at least four characters long did not show up because I had searched for combined terms: " +zfs +overlay". When searching for "zfs" only, I get...

Search term "zfs" is ignored. Why?
Hello,
I was looking for help on a zfs issue. The search says that it ignored the term "zfs". This also happens with "+zfs." Can anybody tell me what the reason for this is?
Regards,
Toquinho

Re: VMware stalls, journalctl reports kernel bug
The broken drive turned out not to be the only problem for the stalls. Somehow the VMware graphics driver was not working correctly and had to be reinstalled. Now everything works as it should.

Re: VMware stalls, journalctl reports kernel bug
The stalls were caused by a file system error on a USB-drive which was mounted both on the VM and on the host. It caused the VM to stall, but it did not have any noticable impact on the host side. fsck fixed the file system, and the VM now runs without problems. As I do not know if the kernel bug th...

VMware stalls, journalctl reports kernel bug
Hello, I recently upgraded my system (see below for details) from buster to bullseye. I often use a Win10 in vmplayer (because of an OpenGL CAD application). This worked without problems in buster. Now the VM stalls irregularly, but often, for about 30 seconds or a minute. A reinstallation of the Wi...

Zoneminder API not working
Hello, I installed the zoneminder package a) on a fresh install of bullseye and b) on a fresh install of buster. For the buster installation, I did a backport of the Debian zoneminder package: https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/zoneminder For the installation, I followed the descriptions on https:...

Re: DHCP server does not recognize subnet declaration
Thanks a lot. I had not assigned an IP to enp4s0. In hindsight it is obvious that this is necessary. I should have read https://wiki.debian.org/DHCP_Server to the very end.

Deleting the symlink did not cause any problems, and the package has already been updated. See also

Re: Error when updating zfs-zed
Yes, I installed the version from buster-backports (because of the native encryption for versions >= 0.8.0).

Re: Error when updating zfs-zed
Thanks a lot. This helped. After deleting the symlink I could upgrade the package without errors. I filed a bug report and will wait for the maintainer's response before marking the problem as solved.

[Solved] Error when updating zfs-zed

Re: System Freezes on Ryzen 7 1800X
Honestly, I do not believe that this is the fault of Ubuntu or an "unstable" kernel. I had the freezes on the current stable release of Debian, and AMD replaces the processors on warranty just based on their part and serial numbers. If it were a kernel problem AMD would not replace the pro...

Backporting nvidia driver with i386 libs on a 64 bit system
Hello! I experience irregular random freezes with different xids on my system with an nvidia graphics card. I am running buster with the backported driver 450.80.02. (I need the backport to run a proprietary numerics solver.) I came across the following bug report: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bu...

Re: System Freezes on Ryzen 7 1800X
I had similar random freezes on a Ryzen 7 1800X. I bought the processor back in 2018, but installed it only a few weeks ago. The system froze when idle (not under load) several times per week, and journalctl indicated some hardware errors. It seems that the early 1800X processors had a problem with ...

VM not running in VMware 16.1 on buster with Kernel 5.8
Hello! I upgraded VMware player from version 16.0 to 16.1 and cannot run a Win10 guest in the VMware player when running buster with the backported kernel 5.8. I want to use the backported kernel because it reports the Ryzen die temperature. In detail, I did the following: After the first difficulti...
