Re: [SOLVED]Making Debian more user-friendly
But Debian isn't for those who just want something to surf the web with, or to check their social media. They can go elsewhere. I surf the web and check social media. Debian doen't tell me I can't do those things. You know what i mean. I do also surf the web and I do spend quite a bit of time on so...

Re: [SOLVED]Making Debian more user-friendly
There are lots of user-friendly linux distros, included derivatives of Debian, and remixes of Debian. Debian itself, is all about choices and options. For people who customize their own system. For people who want to be in charge themselves. So in my opinion, if anyone asks about user-friendly, then...

Re: XFCE - can't shutdown/reboot
I stick with stevepusser on this. Unless you actually want the learning curve by fixing things post-install, you should stick with the default install. You can't do a minimal install without the recommends, and expect that everything will work properly OOTB. There is a reason why packages are recomm...

Re: Looks like people are getting ticked off at ms
Well, but if people can't handle that, then there really is no alternative for them. Because it isn't difficult to avoid. And I don't see why anyone would avoid it. W10 is a excellent OS. As long as you are comfortable with MS having access to your computer and your data. That's a completely differ...

Re: If RedHat goes the Nokia way - consequences for Debian?
Garry....thank you for the trip down memory lane...I think I have the installer for Deb. 1 in a drawer or filing cabinet somewhere. :) spacex...I think edbarx (Debian forum) uses Devuan. You might also like SalixOS, it is based on Slackware but has dependency resolution like Debian called Slapt-get...

Yes, it is based on "testing". But any topless dude loves it new and shiny, so I would pick Sparky with LXQT. Not LXDE.

Re: If RedHat goes the Nokia way - consequences for Debian?
@PAP I'm not one of those who thinks it's a big improvement. Actually, I would have liked to reverted back a few years. Initially I liked Systemd as an init system, and if it had restricted itself to be just that, I would be all for it. But NOT as the infection it turns out to be. To me though, it's...

Re: If RedHat goes the Nokia way - consequences for Debian?
Some will say that Debian has messed it up, others will say that it's a natural progression, and also an improvement. Either way Debian would have done it, 50% would have been disappointed. You have Devuan, you have Gentoo, the BSD's and the slacks, and LFS. What's the big deal? In addition, if you ...

Re: Debian is a bitter disappointment!
For the inode stuff, just leave it up to `mkfs.whatever`, it is *much* better at figuring that out than you are ;) ROFL. Yes, but that's besides the point. He wants to do it himself :D I'm still puzzled about how Lubuntu should make this easier for him. Whatever he can do in Lubuntu, he can do in D...

Well, partioning in Debian is no different from partioning in Lubuntu, so what is your point exactly?

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
@HoaS What the heck is wrong with the XML-configuration? At least you can get openbox to honor custom keyboard shortcuts, opposed to for example in XFCE4, where some of them are lost after reboot. Openbox always behaves as you say it should, no surprises at all. As far as window-decorations, well......
