Re: Is it just me...

Was that thread here , or at MX ? Just wondering, ...Some people, to many as far as that goes, prefer having their hand held, and begging for handouts instead of doing anything for their selves, it is sad really.

Re: Some people still actually work , even with a handicap

I wanted to try a experiment here, since many people probably don't want to follow a link to facebook, and also the video could not be downloaded.
"Byzanz" worked on this, and I was able to make a gif of it :

Re: Debian Mate, Which one?

No, you should not use Debian 9 , unless that is what you want, as all ready mentioned Debian 10 is the current stable release, and so far from what I have seen, Debian 10 is a big improvement, compared to 9. As for using Mate DE, every one has their preferences, that is why their are Window Manager...

Re: Chromium keeps hanging Debian 10

Have you tried a search on that last question ? Also 'man chromium' might answer it , did you even try ? Also if you start chromium, or any program , from the terminal, quite often the output in the terminal will reveal error messages, as they occur. You hardware might be a factor, and it may just b...

Re: Suggestion for better beginner

There also is this, right here on this forum : Beginner's Guide It is some what outdated, but still contains a lot of use full info for beginners. Also, note where you post, you posted a general discussion topic, and that is fine: General Discussion Here you can discuss every aspect of Debian. Note:...

Re: Suggestion for better beginner

Suggestion for better beginner The best beginners do some searches, and read documentation, there are plenty of beginners guides , that explain about the basic linux commands, how to use them, etc. My suggestion is do some searches and read some of them. I would need a very very laymans baby step b...

Re: Broken Packages with OpenProject

I've been waiting a long time to get the special approval to communicate with them on their forum, Probably busy, but sadly because of the "marketing egineers", (spammers), and nonsense bots, many forums and support sites are using a manual registration approval method, to weed out the la...

Re: Broken Packages with OpenProject

Maybe it is only for Debian 9. I took a look at the website, and yes, it is intended for Debian 9, they do not show any other option, since this is a package that is not in the Debian repositories, as far as I know, If it was me, I would try contacting the support site for this software, try to fin...

Re: Broken Packages with OpenProject

All though it can be done, it is not usually recommended , but in some cases it might be the only solution, so I suggest reading this: https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian Very carefully. Read it all, but when you get pretty far down, there is some info: Some safer ways to install software not av...

Re: Problem With APT

You are mixing versions of Debian testing, with other packages that are not even in Debian repositories, and those are for Debian stable, that causes problems and is not a good thing to do.

Re: apt-get update on a debian squeeze failed

It may be the /etc/apt/sources.list needs to be edited, according to here: https://www.debian.org/distrib/archive debian-archive If you need to access one of the old distributions of Debian, you can find them at the Debian Archives, http://archive.debian.org/debian/. http://archive.debian.org/debian...

Re: Suggestion for better beginner

That is really what it boils down to, it is what one prefers, there are no technical reasons one method is best or better. So that is probably why the videos don't try to clarify on that. Most people will say it is best to use 'sudo', instead of 'su -', and there are ways to access the system as roo...

Re: apt-get update on a debian squeeze failed

We are willing to try to help, but: (6 - very old I know but I can't upgrade it for now for technical reasons) This is to vague, if you at least took the time to explain the "technical reasons" you can not "upgrade", besides, Debian 6 is so old, upgrading is not really a option, ...
