Re: Setup https on forums.debian.net
SSL has gone the route of "higher education", once its universal it has lost any/all meaning and relevance, then they create a new "higher level". PhDdD anyone, that will allow you to flip burgers one day.

Re: init diversity in Debian
Well, I've been following this thread and a few others as a lurker and now feel "compelled" to write. I find a lack of sincerity or perhaps a bit of hubris in the apparent alarm and surprise of the recent GR vote regarding systemd. We know from the prior vote that Debian decided to default...

Re: New Admins, Mods and SpamHunters
Things change for people. However, if you keep having/allowing SJW snowflakes run the show and make demands then this is the natural result. Qualified people leave and your left with twits holding their knickers up. Debian is but a pale shadow of its former self, and that affliction is spreading to ...

Re: Options for those not wanting systemd as Wheezy EOL loom
Thanks eor2004, but you are quoting a post which is nearly two years old. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then [for me at least], and my thanks as always go out to HuangLao for this thread and his relentless assistance both on this forum and off it. Ironically enough, if anyone fee...

Re: Options for those not wanting systemd as Wheezy EOL loom
just curious. Is it possible to use debian with eudev+consolekit2+runit rather than using devuan or without messing up. I know that eudev and consolekit2 is not in the debian repo. but runit is in the stable repos https://packages.debian.org/buster/runit If its not in the repos then you have to cre...

Breaking News: VOID – S6 – Obarun’s 66 – musl systemd-free linux community If there was a war front against systemd and the axis powers, Void and Obarun seem to have crossed deep into enemy lines. There's probably a snag somewhere but it's good to know people are working on it. Full marks go to the...

Why are you completing his/her homework for them? Tip: If you need us to do the research for you, then you are in bad shape for that class. You probably grew up in the era of the Internet....so use it, search for yourself. Hell you can even ask Siri or Google or Alexa and get a canned AI answer. HOA...

Re: Synaptic isn't available anymore in Debian 10 Buster
Isn’t that just a teeny-weeny little bit insane? Are you arguing that a buggy Synaptic should be included? I rather doubt that. Considering the demand for Synaptic it is highly likely that it will be fixed. Debian's focus has always been and always will be about producing a stable distribution. It ...

Re: What does your non-Debian desktop look like?
And if someone installs a program that has systemd as a dependency then what? On Devuan, there is no systemd in the repos, not just the live cd or initial install. Users cannot install it even accidentally.anticapitalista wrote:
No need. We have never had libsystemd0 on antiX even though we are based on Debian.

Re: Synaptic and apt (not sharing history)!
that's the problem with having so many different methods for installing packages. It's best to choose one and stick with it, personally apt from CLI is plenty.

Re: Can I replace systemd without using Devuan repos?
Have you considered a compromise that takes systemd out of PID 1 (init) but still leaves other components in place. apt-get install sysvinit-core systemd-shim systemd-sysv- From here. This works well on Stretch. At least one of the components is not available in Buster. As you noted, over time this...

@golinux: PM the OP, I'm not interested at all  ! Not interested? Then just ignore the thread or me for that matter. HOAS can't,...self appointed gate keeper, especially with regards to systemd. But wait, I thought she doesn't use Debian anymore, jumped to Alpine and openBSD etc... Interes...

Re: Debian systemd maintainer "taking a break"
Because when you do that you create distro specific bugs/security holes that upstream is not aware of nor can they issue a fix/patch. Remember the Debian SSL fiasco? If not, here you go: https://research.swtch.com/openssl https://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/21/massive_debian_openssl_hangover/ Tha...
