Re: [Off-Topic] So who here is looking forward to Ubuntu's 24.04 LTS next week

Last time I checked, Canonical was still a bad actor with regard to unsolicited phone-home code embedded in their releases. At least every time I've installed it on a machine here, I started seeing suspicious outgoing traffic in my firewall logs, with no way to disable. Yes, I agree. Version 22.04 ...

You also forgot to write that the latest release of Firefox supports Wayland natively . Firefox ESR not (works through xwayland).

Re: [Off-Topic] So who here is looking forward to Ubuntu's 24.04 LTS next week

So if you are judging the OS speed by the speed of the browser, you are using unscientific method. It has nothing to do with ubuntu, but rather is down to the Firefox developers. Personally, I have not written anywhere that I judge the speed of Ubuntu by how fast Firefox starts. I wrote that when c...

OR the GNOME developers, OR the kernel developers, OR ... (inclusive OR) I think this is a credit to the Ubuntu kernel team. As for Gnome itself, Ubuntu's command has also contributed to its optimization. The fact is one - even at the highest loads, with an old HDD, the system just flies, without a...

Wow..that's a strong statement. Care to back that up with some stats? I am not questioning you - just curious to see some performance benchmarks Ubuntu 24.04 vs Debian 12, if you have them. I tried Ubuntu 24.04 in a Virtualbox and once I started Firefox, performance was as bad as any other distro. ...

Re: [Off-Topic] So who here is looking forward to Ubuntu's 24.04 LTS next week

Ubuntu 24.04, Gnome 46 with Wayland session. As you can see from the picture provided, my machine is neither new nor powerful, but everything works very fast on it. Apparently, the developers of Ubuntu did a very good job, because the system is very fast and responsive. I don't want to cause any emo...

I use exactly the same video card. I tried both open source and closed source video drivers and didn't notice any difference (I'm not a gamer, I don't play any games) so I use open source software (including video card driver).

It is still supported by the LTS team until June 30, so from a few weeks it will receive no updates and the repo will be moved to archive.
Thank you for the info. But i think this is limited and In addition, it is paid support.

Re: Bookworm XFCE - Missing dependencies to make Terminal

I am attempting to use the latest Terminal from XFCE If you want build latest xfce4-terminal, you must install dependencies for building this app. The easiest way for doing that is install with one command: sudo apt build-dep xfce4-terminal And then follow the instructions provided by source code. ...
