Don't like the debian bug report system, based on mailing lists, for a couple of reasons:

Re: Remove proprietary nvidia driver and revert back to nouv
Finally could get the nvidia propriertary driver working on debian buster/sid, directly from the nouveau, just adding the non-free repository and installing nvidia-driver: NvidiaGraphicsDrivers 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP104M [GeForce GTX 1060] (rev a1) Subsystem: Micro-...

Told you already, want to test several util-linux commands with latest commits or my own patches.debiman wrote:imo, x-y-problems are a waste of everyone's time, but it seems you are set to not tell us what problem you are actually trying to solve.

Ok what I need works for now, all utilities are just inside the util-linux/ folder just after compiling. Now I can test the commands properly with sudo ./command

Re: compile util-linux from github
util-linux is too way embedded on the system. i'll say it a third time, if you don't install it, you can use most utilities straight from the git directory, after compiling. Ok you got me there, didn't know that was possible. I would like to run lsblk, blkid, fdisk and so on. Hope I can run them fr...

Re: compile util-linux from github
please tell us why you think you need to do this. "i just want to" is a valid answer, but if you think you need this to fix some problem, your approach is likely wrong. http://xyproblem.info/ i want to test latest commits, which are not yet available with apt install. I've tried installin...

Re: compile util-linux from github
Why exactly do you need the version from git? If you really need some bug fix that's only available there, my first inclination would be to try to cherry-pick the fix, patch, and rebuild the version you have in Buster. My thoughts are that you can really mess up your system by trying the manual bui...

Re: Remove proprietary nvidia driver and revert back to nouv
Furthermore, I think that Nvidia knows things that open source developers don't. And maybe open source developers care about things that nvidia doesn't. I know probably there is some issue with the scripts in the debs. Furthermore, when you download official drivers from nvidia, you choose which gr...

Re: Remove proprietary nvidia driver and revert back to nouv
Most likely it forces using the nvidia-driver package from Debian repo, which is the most reliable and best supported way to install anyway. At least on ubuntu I tried getting 3 acceleration to work work the packages from the repositories, but no luck no matter how I tried. The only way to get nvid...

There is also this package available: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/nvidia-installer-cleanup It says Furthermore using the nvidia-installer to install a new version of the drivers is prevented as long as this package is installed Is that right, does that even prevent the nvidia official insta...

Re: Remove proprietary nvidia driver and revert back to nouv
It was easier than expected. What you have to do is: Login to a terminal (for example hit Control+Alt+F2) View desktop managers in use: sudo pgrep dm -l Stop the X server and desktop environment. In my case "service sddm stop" because I'm using KDE PLASMA. For other graphical environments:...

Remove proprietary nvidia driver and revert back to nouveau
I've downloaded and run the official nvidia driver installer "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-384.98.run", so now the Kernel driver in use is nvidia for my graphics card.
I would like to remove it and revert to nouveau like a fresh install..

FIXED: I reinstalled Debian 2.6.32-5-686. Then I modified the /etc/network/interfaces file with these variables: # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface ...

Still using KDE Partition Manager 1.0.x 6 years old????????
kdesu (what you typed as KDE su) is installed in Debian, but is not in an executable PATH. If you want that, run with admin privileges a command to link it somewhere in your path, such as: ln -s /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu /usr/bin/kdesu I used the search box in the start menu, which launched kdesu...
