Re: Flash player update - Wheezy
Have experimented already. Seems fine. I guess was just holding back out of a mistaken loyalty to Debian and a large slice of laziness. If Adobe are providing security updates then I might still be able to squeeze a bit more time out of Wheezy? Owncloud-client seems to have died too... I'm almost lo...

Flash player update - Wheezy
Will Debian Wheezy be getting an update to flash player? This plugin is vulnerable and needs to be updated it keeps telling me. Or is it time to finally upgrade to slackware?

Re: Migrating from Debian to ???
I'm going to hang on to Wheezy until Slackware 15 is out and if that gets infected with systemd its off to one of the BSD's. I've already played around with PCBSD and was mostly impressed.
One way or another, I won't be using systemd...

Re: What should we do about systemd?
I'll be switching to Slackware once Jessie becomes stable and if slackware becomes infested I'll be off to PcBSD. Have tested both and am happy that they will be able to meet my needs. The default gui of both is KDE which is my favourite anyway, so I'll be fine. As just an ordinary user I'd like to ...

Re: kde is crap
it does have some SERIOUS lacks that make it difficult to use regularly....for instance a package manager. there isnt one that is specific for KDE under squeeze, and the only way to install/update packages under wheezy is to use a console..... Um... Have you tried synaptic? I don't use wheezy but t...

I think it is more likely, that YOU are crap... There are too many people coming into Linux now with your attitude. "It doesn't work, its crap! I hate this I hate that!" Quit whining and either get a clue or go back to windows... The proper way to deal with a problem is to :- 1) Search the...

Re: Your reactions when you first tried GNU/Linux.
I bought Mandrake 10.1 beginner edition. If anyone wants it, I still have it in mint condition. I was too scared to try it on my main desktop so I put it on a very old Pentium II. It seemed slow and clunky and as I had no ethernet or wireless connection, fairly useless. I tried again in 2007 with Pc...

You seem to have a problem with the concept of appropriate words/actions. Perhaps, you are a bit of a newbie yourself when it comes to politeness and respect for others? You consider that being polite? I politely pointed out his impoliteness. So, yes... You can stick your concept of tra-la-la where...

Re: Are you with me?
As a relatively new Debian user (2 yr +) I roughly agree with your points, although as has been said, hate is too strong a word. This forum was a surprise to me. It's a lot less active than I would have expected, seeing as Debian is one of the founding fathers of Gnu/Linux. I can only think that mos...

Re: Where to Start
I jumped straight in and bought a sheevaplug with an 8gb Debian SD card. Nothing helps you learn about servers and remote administration like a proper headless server. http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-22-sheevaplug-dev-kit-us.aspx I plugged mine into my netgear dg834 and port-forwarded http ...
