OK. Thanks for the additional reply. This did not help in my case. I now show no printer discovered. I will continue to mess with it, but would still appreciate alternative printer brand recommendations... Will mark this as solved, since what has been said appears to be the last word.

First, thanks to you both for the links and responses. I should have specified that the printer appears to install, but actually does not work properly when tested. In the local printer properties there are options for paper size and so forth, and these do not work after setting them. Printed pages ...

I am running bookworm xfce. I recently purchased an hp deskjet 3772 all-in-one printer because my old one finally died and it was very compact, so it fit on my desk. I was under the impression nearly any hp would work on debian with hplip and cups installed, but that is not the case with this model....

OK. Using su - and then swapon -s gives me:

So, it looks like I have a swap partition of about 1G (?) and no swap file?

Is this, then, the installation default?

I installed Debian (testing) from a netinst usb. Did it automatically install a swap partition or a swap file? swapon -s shows no such bash command exists, but my conky display shows some swap is available.

I'm marking my own post solved because I got it working. Turns out that typing ufw enable (even as root) does not work. I must use sudo. I added myself to sudo and then used sudo ufw enable and it works. Not sure what was going on but it is working now. Thanks for the input.
