Re: [Software] Firefox .deb package

FreewheelinFrank: I don't recall. When it didn't work I deleted all traces of it and went back to my regular install of regular stable Firefox. That works fine, but it puzzled me that Mozilla would hype the release of the .deb package without ensuring that the process worked on all DEs.

[Software] Firefox .deb package

I use debian 12 stable Xfce with backports. It is a great distro. My bank does not accept firefox-esr, so I have been using regular Firefox downloaded from Mozilla with no issues. Recently I learned about the new .deb package provided by Mozilla, which appealed to me because I could use apt to keep ...

[Solved] System 76 Thelio

I am considering buying a Thelio desktop with a Ryzen 7 7700X cpu. I am aware their machines comp preloaded with PopOS, which I would replace with Debian 12 with Xfce. I am also aware their systems come with their own open source drivers for their boards and peripherals (keyboards, etc), and am wond...

[Solved] youtube-dl Problem

I am on Debian 12 stable with Xfce. It is great. A week or so ago youtube-dl stopped working for me. I don't know if it just doesn't get updated frequently enough to keep up with YouTube's efforts to undermine it, or if the problem is from youtube-dl itself. There is no more recent version in back p...

Re: hp deskjet 3772 all-in-one, or alternatives

OK. Thanks for the additional reply. This did not help in my case. I now show no printer discovered. I will continue to mess with it, but would still appreciate alternative printer brand recommendations... Will mark this as solved, since what has been said appears to be the last word.

Re: hp deskjet 3772 all-in-one, or alternatives

First, thanks to you both for the links and responses. I should have specified that the printer appears to install, but actually does not work properly when tested. In the local printer properties there are options for paper size and so forth, and these do not work after setting them. Printed pages ...

[Hardware] [solved] hp deskjet 3772 all-in-one, or alternatives

I am running bookworm xfce. I recently purchased an hp deskjet 3772 all-in-one printer because my old one finally died and it was very compact, so it fit on my desk. I was under the impression nearly any hp would work on debian with hplip and cups installed, but that is not the case with this model....

Re: Debian Xfce & Epiphany Browser

To all who replied, thanks very much. Upon consideration of all your comments, I have successfully switched to Firefox-ESR 91 and removed Epiphany. I think this will suffice for me for now. I would like to see Debian offer its own packaged version of the newest Firefox, but considering how often Fir...

Re: Debian Xfce & Epiphany Browser

I thought something like this, but tried to reinstall esr so I could delete Epiphany, and list-bugs tells me it has several bugs, so I don't want to install it (since I'm not going to use it, anyway). I guess Debian allows esr with bugs to be installed in the netinstall (?)

[Solved] Debian Xfce & Epiphany Browser

I use Debian stable Xfce with Mozilla's Firefox (not esr). I discovered the Epiphany browser is included and tried to delete it, only to discover esr is then automatically installed. Two questions: 1) Is there a reason Epiphany browser is included in Debian Xfce? 2) how can I uninstall it without ad...

[RESOLVED] Keybinding Request

I am on stable Xfce. I like the menu one first gets after installation for shutting down that offers a graphic with options for shut-down, suspend, logout, etc. Once you select say, logout, that menu never appears again in my experience. I have a keybinding set for super + l that triggers the comman...

Re: Xfce Software Updater Status

I am using testing with Xfce, with firefox and thunderbird pinned from unstable. Until recently the package updater would automatically load into the panel upon the first reboot, and would display a changed icon when there were updates or upgrades. Now (after Xfce 4.16?), it is still a component of...

Re: Swap File/Swap Partition

Thanks to all for the input. I read the links you provided, and neither answers my specific question, which is: what is the default swap partitioning scheme? I used the graphical installation and selected guided, but under that method there is no option regarding swap. This is my output for lsblk: N...

Re: Swap File/Swap Partition

OK. Using su - and then swapon -s gives me:

Filename Type Size Used Priority
/dev/dm-1 partition 999420 420 -2

So, it looks like I have a swap partition of about 1G (?) and no swap file?

Is this, then, the installation default?

[Solved] Swap File/Swap Partition

I installed Debian (testing) from a netinst usb. Did it automatically install a swap partition or a swap file? swapon -s shows no such bash command exists, but my conky display shows some swap is available.

[Solved] Re: UFW Not Behaving Properly

I'm marking my own post solved because I got it working. Turns out that typing ufw enable (even as root) does not work. I must use sudo. I added myself to sudo and then used sudo ufw enable and it works. Not sure what was going on but it is working now. Thanks for the input.
