Re: Problem installing on a USB HDD

Sounds like a Graphics Problem, try adding nomodeset to the grub command line, you will need to do this until you have Graphics Card Drivers installed.

eg

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nomodeset"
Good Luck !

Re: Black screen with fresh install with XFCE

Try adding 'nomodeset' to the Kernel command line before you boot. Until you get you gfx drivers installed.

Code: Select all

Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=a21e4e48-b6b8-4969-aa32-ef3ade9fa9ff ro quiet nomodeset

Re: Nvida -Jessie - Backports?

Thank you, many people have asked about compiz in the past, and you're the only poster to mention that updated repository, though I seem to remember using them way back in the Etch or Lenny era. I'll see if I can use their updated, bugfixed source for my own packaging. :D For what its worth, in Deb...

Re: Nvida -Jessie - Backports?

Nvidia-detect recommended the nvidia-driver from backports because it determined that your hardware was too new to be supported by the older driver in Jessie's normal repository. Re: Window border - Mate - Stretch

Also, you can install MATE Tweak and select window managers there (with/without compositing.. Thanks for your reply TonyT Yeah I did all that, I ended up installing some packages and even...

Hi everybody, I just did a clean install of Debian Stretch, everything went smooth, nVidia drivers installed without a hitch. Very stable!! However when trying to theme her I noticed the window borders will not change and the default looks terrible, font looks funky and the border has a slight trans...
