Re: [Solved] Hiccups on NFS over krb5p
Well, nervermind. Seems like I got it. Initially, I've copied over the keytab file from the old server and added a few other keytabs to it. Now, I removed "nfs/nfs.domain" and "host/nfs.domain", then re-added them, thus increasing the kvno. Everything's working fine, now, it seems.

[Solved] Hiccups on NFS over krb5p
Good night, fellow sysadmins I've been bashing my head against the keyboard all Sunday long over this bizarre issue. Tried strace'ing things, tail -f'ing syslog and messages. And, hell, I've even spent an hour looking at ominous tcpdump output, to no avail. Thing is: at my workplace, we had an Debia...

Re: Got a power hungry server
@prppedro I feel the need to qualify the scale of things. and scale makes all the difference. Power consumption is not linear to performance. Computers have made more gains in power usage than outright performance. Cores are part of this. So a computer 10X your E3 is possible, and it doesn't draw 1...

Re: Got a power hungry server
Well, thanks, guys, for all the replies. To be quite honest, I really liked the case (Must admit, I find all these enterprise stuff really gorgeous, and they're rigged as hell). Problem is, it's all proprietary stuff from PSU connections down to motherboard form factor. Therefore, it's a no go fitti...

Got a power hungry server
Hey, people It's a silly question, I admit. I got an old HP ML350 G5 sporting two Xeons 5120. After formating it to Linux and removing both the PPM and the second processor, Kill-a-Watt shows 178~180W, for the high load generated by Prime95, and 158~162W while sitting idle. Well, according to this s...

Re: X crashing under mysterious conditions
Not really. I'm using whichever it auto-detects, to be quite honest. By “accelerated” I meant things like VDPau.Bulkley wrote:By that, do you mean that you are tweaking the video output? That can cause crashes.. . . run things using accelerated video.

Re: X crashing under mysterious conditions
have you used nvidia-settings? (recommended) and here is appendix B https://www.naic.edu/~phil/hardware/nvidia/doc/driverInstall/appendix-b.html It's a lot of reading and can usually be avoided after using nvidia-settings https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers/Configuration other resources a...

X crashing under mysterious conditions
Hi, people My backup computer at my workplace is running Debian Buster. It consists in a Xeon E5420 running on a P5QC with 8 GB DDR3 RAM, outputing through a Nvidia GT 430 video card. Works great, but, after some time (I've been unable to determine if it happens under normal usage or just when sitti...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Well, not that modern Workbench wouldn't work with older versions. Mine connects sometimes to a very old NT 4 server, when I need to extract data from an ancient DB. But Oracle is Oracle, go figure...
Glad it's working anyway. And, perhaps, it was indeed a problem with config/lib.
Cheers,

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Damn... It's becoming tougher than I ever imagined. I've been thinking about a possible solution. But firstly: 1) Perhaps 5.5.x version had a different parameter than "--daemonize". I don't know... But it wasn't very useful in your case, anyway. 2) When mysqld runs from terminal, kill is t...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Thanks for the help...and your English is excellent. hahaha, I'm a "tryhard" when it comes to languages that aren't my own. Glad to know my efforts weren't fruitless, at all. Now, back to MySQL... According to the logs, you've stopped it. So, it's alright, so far. After stopping it and ca...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
So, there's something odd happening. I'm using Debian 9, so there's no way for me to test MySQL server behavior in 8.7. Also, my database server runs from an standalone XAMPP setup, which settles in /opt directory. But my guess is that there's some config failure. As you can see by netstat -tulpn co...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Hi, mzimmers. I've been comparing your "status" output to mine. Well, there's no entry for mysql-server. In services it's simply called mysql and yours seems to be running, like mine is: root@athena:/home/prppedro# service mysql status ● mysql.service - MySQL Community Server Loaded: loade...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Seems like your MySQL Server isn't running, at all. Issue a "sudo service mysql status" to confirm. In any case, seems like there's already some databases in your server. Don't purge the package before backuping that /var/lib/mysql folder. Then,it's safe to clear it. I'm not sure if purgin...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Well, may be you're looking for General Query log. This MySQL KB article discusses it: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/query-log.html Assuming you're running the standard repository version of MySQL, your socket should lie in /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. I suspect that, for some strange reason...

Re: troubleshooting MySQL on Jessie
Well, first things first, we need to know which version are you running. Problems connecting to a localhost MySQL frequently does have something to do with Unix sockets. May be your MySQL isn't placing it in an expected place by your operating system. I had such problem with XAMPP, which stood in /o...

Re: Debian 8.7 to 9 transition and MATE issues [Edited]
It's an interesting thing. After all, they had such goal since the very begining. GTK 3 seems to still have an entire way ahead... If, of course, GTK team stops doing thinks like GTK 3.20. MATE will stick to it for a good time, so seems like we aren't going to face difficulties for at least the next...

Re: Debian 8.7 to 9 transition and MATE issues [Edited]
If I was were in your place, and Stable was working just fine, I'd just install the MATE Stretch in a Virtual Box VM. It's actually not very difficult at all, as far as my experience goes. Like I say, always, "there's things we learn only by empiricism"... Taking dist-upgrade with a grain...

Re: Debian 8.7 to 9 transition and MATE issues [Edited]
Well, to be honest, had no time to test it. The transition to Stretch bought problems beyond one's imagination. From video lags to oddities with GDM. But's it's not the topic question. According to my search, it was precisely the GTK 3.20 update to broke older GTK 3 themes. To be honest, I now under...

Re: Compiling MATE against Debian 8.7
Well, so I upgraded. $ cat /etc/debian_version 9.0 Now, there's a bunch of problems, but the first I noticed is odds with GTK 3 themes (seems like MATE is finally using GTK 3), but some Window themes like "Fog" is missing and many, many controls themes like Murina variations, Redmond et al...
