For instance Chinese hardware such as Lenova can contain factory installed firmware based virus (lower prices can be a incentive to spread such virus).

Re: I have to wait 1 1/2 minutes before my destro

Interesting . . . OP joined this forum 2011-03-10 and still hasn't learned how to use the search function . . . I remember when these forums weren't full of ass holes. I'm a newb (to this forum), I've had spectacular help in the short time I've been here - but (much like other help forums) it helps...

Re: What laptop to buy?

When you purchase the pre-installed Ubuntu/Debian laptops, do the projects get a % of the sale price?

/var/cache/sabma didn't exist, I manually created it and the permission denied errors stopped, but the connection refused/mounting errors persist. The mount isn't occurring because the connection is being refused, correct? I'm at a loss on what's causing the connection to refuse. Any way to troubles...

Error from org.gtk.vfs.Mountable.mount(): Failed to retrieve

On Stretch; did updates last night, not sure if this is attributable - but this is the first I've come across these issues. Re: can you delete any file in /var/log?

Which I have attempted unsuccessfully. I do not know when or why the free hdd space gets occupied because files in /var/log get bigger. Are you opening the logs and reading them? Research the error message on the web or ask here, that's what I do in attempt to get my logs smaller. :) Use whatever v...

Re: Troubleshooting Bluetooth

I ended up upgrading to 9 as I was having issues with wifi and whatnot. Now, Bluetooth pairs / works without issue.. but once my PC reboots, the sound profile reverts to major garbage; its flat sounding! in /var/log/syslog (not sure if this is related?): May 20 02:02:03 debian kernel: [ 7118.046160]...

Re: unable to create file '/run/user/1000/dconf/user': Permi

As mentioned in my original post, this is a fresh install; I'm monitoring the logs to find anything broken in attempt to fix so I can have as stable as possible environment.

The permissions error initially existed without my intervention. All I did was install Gnome.

Re: unable to create file '/run/user/1000/dconf/user': Permi

Noticed this pop up again: May 20 02:37:51 debian tracker-extract[1001]: unable to create file '/run/user/1000/dconf/user': Permission denied. dconf will not work properly. Re: Making NetworkManager default

Is it safe to say Networkmanager isn't pre-configured on Debian? By "ISO" and "CD" did you refer to a USB flash drive and a physical CD/DVD-R disc? Personally I can't see any difference. USB. I initially assumed they were the same thing, but users around the web insist the iso/usb is out of date. Debian 8 is the current stable release ...

Re: Making NetworkManager default

So somehow "pure NetworkManager" mode now works, and the initial problem "...installed Debian and immediately had no connection." is intermittent. Could this be somehow related to the fact that the OS originated from an ISO and not a CD? If you don't have a particular use case t...
