In a default Debian installation, the passphrase is prompted by the initramfs, not GRUB.

It has nothing to do with cat, it is precisely because you send the output to the terminal which interprets the control characters.

Re: Differnece between live and regular ISO

Netinstall (if you have a good internet connection) gives you choice of desktop environments and up to date install. Isn't it the same with any other installation or live image ? eave root password blank locks root account and defaults to first user set up with sudo. Install, boot into system and a...

Re: [Software] use debian dvd to handle packages

Not sure, I have never used multiple installation CDROMs. Maybe you can point the /media/cdrom to the desired CDROM mount point when prompted by apt. Or create "deb file:" entries for each CDROM in /etc/apt/sources.list (see man sources.list). IIRC CDROM repositories are not signed, so you...

IIRC apt expects the CDROM to be mounted on /media/cdrom.

You are able to boot the installation. You are not able to open a session. Totally different issue.

This is easy to verify. Do not use symbols in passwords.

I have to use this specific version because It used inside my school. So what ? That does not sound like a valid reason for using an obsolete version. It's possible to specify singles packages during installation steps? Yes. In any installer shell, you can run apt-install <package> But why not just...

Re: You need to be in a special group (often: wheel)

Should'nt the admin password be already in the group? This question makes no sense. Groups contain users, not passwords. There is no such thing as an "admin password". There is your (user) password, and there may be a root password. The dialog in your screen shot seems to ask for your use...

You are talking about fragmentation when operating at nearly-full filesystem. I don't think so the OP was talking about filesystem fragmentation. So overprovisioning HDDs by making by curving smaller parition (to leave empty space for overprovision, like in SSD case) is stupid idea Overprovisioning...

Re: Stuck at grub prompt when booting !

Thanks for the feedback. I should have guessed, as I have already met this issue. GRUB is not selective enough when looking for the installation media and may pick the wrong device. This bug has been fixed in the lastest bookworm (testing) installer, GRUB now looks for a unique file name.

Re: Differnece between live and regular ISO

The live version does not install with a root password (seprate from the user password) but the kde.iso version does have a root password. It is not clear what you mean by "version". The live image you mention is the KDE flavour, so how would it be different from itself ? Also, it unclear...
