Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

There is a bug report for this from years ago. Apparently it's a packaging issue not a bug in Timidity so didn't get fixed. :? https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=901931 The solution apparently is to remove Timidity from the audio group ( details in link). Thanks again; this solve the...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

I should probably have asked this before, but do you have package Timidity installed? Yes it is. Edit: My mistake previously (#24), we need # fuser -v /dev/snd/* to see if a system service (prime suspect: Timidity) has taken control of sound. Indeed, at first fuser -v /dev/snd/* returns nothing. Bu...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

I suspect that as the Alsa speaker test is saying "Device or resource busy", it's Alsa that can't connect to the hardware. I understand, I tried your suggestions but always no sound (in particular there is no .asoundrc in my home directory). But, since the command speaker test also says: ...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

Have you tried sound without Firefox running? If you close Firefox, are there any Firefox processes left running in Task Manager? If there are, kill them and try sound again. Try turning off the computer, pulling the plug or removing the battery on a laptop if you can. Press and hold the power butt...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

Could you post output of $ fuser -v /dev/snd/* please? Edit: actually both of these: $ fuser -v /dev/snd/* $ fuser -v /dev/dsp See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting No output for the first command, and no file for the second: $ fuser -v /dev/snd/* $ fuser -v /dev/dsp Spec...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

Have you had a look in sound settings to check if an application has taken control of sound playback? Yes: Audio volume in the panel and the pavucontrol program show devices and applications firefox is not marked as default. To check if sound is working in Alsa, run this command with speakers turne...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

Seems to be an issue with the updated kernel, several people have reported the same issue. Boot with the old kernel until the issue is fixed. https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=153532 Thanks for the link. I already tried but unfortunately booting on the previous kernel (5.10.0-19) do not res...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

pacmd list-sinks Plural, with an "s", works on my Bullseye install. I know I used pulseaudio -D to get it working on another install, but I can't remember if that was a Bullseye install that I messed up or Testing (I don't have pulseaudio installed in Testing any more, so can't check that...

Re: [Software] No more audio after update (Debian 11)

The list-sinks command seems to need you to start pulseaudio in this way before it will work. pulseaudio -D Thanks for your help, Indeed pulseaudio seems to not start $pulseaudio -D E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. $ But! I check in the System Monitor (Ksysguard on my KDE Desktop) and...

Re: Debian 11 pb to copy the iso image on usb stick

Thanks for your answer,

I understand that the speed depends on the computer used, but I waited more than 15 mn on a recent dell laptop (Precision i9/32Go),
the USB drive was not mounted. Could it be longer?

Re: Debian 11 Optimus How to stop idle Nvidia card ?

Hello, thanks for your answer and sorry for the delay in my response. My goal is to power off (and on) the Nvidia card dynamically, as it was with previous Debian version (9 and 10) with optimus. On that version (9 and 10) only a specific command (optirun) for running a program on the Nvidia card, w...

Debian 11 Optimus How to stop idle Nvidia card ?

Hello, I run Debian 11 on my Dell Precision Mobile 3561. On it there is two graphic cards Intel and a Nvidia T600 M. The two cards are managed by the proprietary Nvidia driver (the 460). When the nvidia T600 is idle it is still powered, this increase both temperature and consumption (a problem when ...
