i used the new kernel 4.16.0 form the strech-backports and the firmware-amd-graphics ( 20170823 ) drvier pack on also on strech-backports This works fine, i try'd 4.9.0.3 and up 4.9.0.6 none of the kernel's work anymore with both versions of ( firmware-amd-graphics ). ctrl-alt-F1 might work better to get to tty? Did you try the newer kernel in backports when you got the firmware?
