Re: [O/S] Unwanted folder in every new user's home directory
@qoozh - If you don't want to have any (or some) of the directories created, simply comment the ones you don't want to be created, out. For the others that are already created, simply delete them.

Re: [Software] Authy removal
I'd be curious to know if you see it listed in synaptic. If its shown there, there is a chance to remove it. Have you tried dpkg also? I assume you have but thought it worth mentioning. Also worth noting, there may be an uninstall script somewhere where the app resides. Doesn't happen often, but som...

I think @NorthEast hit it right on the money (assuming translate actually means translated based on the languages the Op has setup during install).

Re: [Software] Authy removal
Authy does not appear to be in packages from buster through experimental, therefore, unsupported by Debian and appears to be a snap, and since it appears to be a snap (also appears to still be in Beta (?))
you might be better severed via SnapCraft OR from the folks that created Authy.

Re: [Software] Best software for a backup server
For home networking with a "minimal" front end, I like UrBackup. For the most part, its a front end for rsync. Of course, there is BackupPC. A bit more complex with the ability to backup clients. Rsnapshot (as mentioned above) and rdiff backup, both of which I have used at various times in...

I happened to have inherited my dad's Machinist (Tool & Die) tool box. There are some fairly old files in there

Re: Converting scripts to C that contain phrases
...can be decompiled but that would mean someone taking the time to do all that. ... I do believe I covered that with the above. Extracting strings from compiled C doesn't require any decompiling at all, or access to the source for that matter. A simple 'strings <binary>' will dump any plaintext, a...

Re: Converting scripts to C that contain phrases
While it is possible to to place a password within the script, it's not a good idea for obvious reason. What I have done in the past (and probably the recommended way) was to create a directory in /etc and chmod the directory so that only root can access the file within that contains the password f...

Converting scripts to C that contain phrases
This isn't a question but more of a here's what I did as a possible way of using a password within a script. In my case, my croned backups that run and encrypt tarball backup that I'll use a password to decrypt. While it is possible to to place a password within the script, it's not a good idea for ...

Re: fonts are too small
Could also be that the Op is speaking of the txt size within either Chromium of Firefox, yanno - that Control mouse wheel zoom and not actually the overall fonts of the system or the resolution. But most likely not. Sometimes ya need clarification.

Re: [Discussion] What change, if implemented, would cause you to leave Debian?
Forcing me to jump into a newer set of software that I'm not ready to use for whatever reason... which seem to be a big thing in general here. I've heard about wayland, but I'm still on the fence, using xfce. I remember the gnome3 disaster, so I have no hurry to rush into something totally new that...

Re: Can AI do this job?
Agreed - if you have the means to do so, it may take additional time to find out, try this within a VM. Of course, this may be easier said than done. But at least its an option to consider while still keeping your original install left untouched. Interesting though, that forums "could" be ...

Re: my printer is not seen by debian 12
I think something changed when the switch was made to openprinting. I have had a similar issue with my HP. I can fudge it with foo drivers but color printing has been non-functional for me since November/December. Some research I found is that someone in the same boat as I, removed ghostscript in fa...
