Re: How to properly run the ldconifig command.
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=142973 EDIT: to clarify: the command is in the /sbin directory so either call the full path, add that directory to your user's PATH, run it with sudo or obtain a root shell with 'su -' before attempting to use it. Thank you very much for your respon...

Re: How to properly run the ldconifig command.
Greetings everyone. I'm currently installing some dependencies for cdogs-sdl, one of them is protoc, and I'm following the installation directions here, (https://github.com/protocolbuffers/protobuf/blob/master/src/README.md), and I've followed everything up to the "sudo ldconfig # refresh shar...

Where is the package manger in Deiban 10?
Hello everyone! I've just installed Debian 10, coming from Debian 9, on one of my computers, and I have found that the (synaptics) package manager is missing from my applications, and I can't find it. Do I have to install this externally, or is it hidden away? If anyone could provide me some informa...

Re: Perfering an old stable version of Debian.
@ theblueplll Well basically when I have a hard drive or storage device that has multiple partitions on it, Windows 7 will only show one of the partitions. The rest are inaccessible. I've tried using the built in disc management utility, but it just throws an error when I try to activate the other p...

Re: Perfering an old stable version of Debian.
@ duffy I'm glad to hear that Buster is working for you. :) Speaking of Virtualization, I use it too on Windows. I actually have a copy of Debian 9 running just for managing files on my Linux based devices. The two being my BittBoy V3, and my Raspberry Pi. Windows 7 doesn't like multiple partitions ...

Re: Perfering an old stable version of Debian.
@ Funkygoby I can understand some people consider Debian stable obsolete the moment it's released, but those are probably the same people that love Sid. Some people just like to be bleeding edge. I'm the opposite, I prefer to lag behind with something old and reliable. :D @ sickpig Right on man! I'm...

Re: which Debian do you use most often?
@ Original Post.
I got into Debian with Debian 9 Stretch. Once Debian 10 Buster was released. I decided from there on out that I wanted to stick to using anything old stable. So currently that's Stretch.

Re: Ressurecting Old Hardware
@ Original Post This is the exact reason why I adopted Debian. I've got an old laptop and an old netbook setup as weather stations, of which are both running Debian 9. Both of them used to run Windows XP, but I was able to revive them with Debian. I'm glad that you where able to do the same thing wi...

That's what I plan on doing with Stretch. Using it until it's no longer supported.

Perfering an old stable version of Debian.
You know, after spending a lot of time with Debian, I have found that I definitely prefer an old stable version of it. Now that Buster has been released, I think I'm going to stick with Debian Stretch for now. I would rather look into adopting buster once it becomes old stable. Why you may ask? Well...

Re: Why I adpoted Debian.
@ CwF Fake news on facebook (yeah, tell me about it man.) Keeping an eye on the market. Watching HDTV, and listening to an HD Radio Station. Sounds like you've got quite a setup going there CwF. :) Also, its nice to know that you've found the best virtual machine to work with on Debian. That's what ...

Re: Why I adpoted Debian.
@ CwF You're very welcome. From what you've been describing about Windows XP. I'm amazed at how far we can still push the ol' faithful operating system. If only we could get the source code to Windows XP, that would make a lot of people happy, and open up a metric frick ton of possibility. Heck, I w...

Re: Why I adpoted Debian.
@ CwF It would seem you and I have shared a similar journey in our search for the perfect Linux Distro, and have shared similar experiences. I will admit, my first experience with Linux wasn't a pleasant one. I picked Ubuntu as my first distribution, only to find that it's designed for running on mo...

Agreed! Having a backup plan will mean I'll be prepared for any situation gone south. I think On my next installation, I'll learn how to setup different partitions.

Re: Why I adpoted Debian.
@ Lysander Well its nice to know that breaking linux is part of the learning process. Thankfully, I'm learning from my mistakes, so there's no worries there. As for setting up multiple partitions, that's a really good suggestion. It would be nice to have my home folder on a separate partition, in th...
