Re: [Debian News] Due to an issue in ext4 with data corruption in kernel 6.1.64-1, we are pausing the 12.3 image release
I tried a clean install with the new 12.4, and for me, ran into the same issues with hanging up while shutting down, which seemed to be at the network or networkmanager stage. Not sure, but had to do a hard shutdown. I then reinstalled one of my backup images (via clonezilla), so that I don't have t...

Same experience. Read announcement after my morning routine of backing up and updating. Same experience of laptop not shutting down normally. I also noticed that my script for reconnecting my wifi using nmcli did not work. +1 for clonezilla. I presume there will be an announcement when updates are s...

Re: What Desktop environment do you use?
I'll admit it. I use Gnome......and I like it.
Though, the first extension I add is the 'no overview at startup'. Just like a clean desk in the morning, I like the un-cluttered look when I first start up. That is one thing I liked better back with Gnome 3.

Re: Delbian asking for google and microsoft login
That's just standard Gnome setup, not just Debian. Install any other distro with Gnome, and you'll see the same thing. It's been around for ages. If you want to skip it, just press "skip".

Re: Hardware for Debian latest version
Personally, as a lazy unprincipled individual, I just install the "unofficial" firmware iso, and has always recognized my hardware very well (better than ubuntu, btw). iso's located here: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/ My machine: _,met$$$$$gg...

Re: Debian 11.3 w/Gnome - Freezes
Must be a problem with your VMWare Pro setup on Windows. I installed Debian 11.3 with Gnome desktop on a VM with Qemu/KVM on Virtual Machine Manager (within a Debian GNU/Linux host), with no problem at all.

Re: Do you use nouveau in bullseye for a legacy graphics card?
1. Do you have such a graphics card? NVIDIA GF108GLM 2. Do you use the nouveau driver? Yes. 3. What desktop environment? Gnome - X11 windowing system 4. What is the performance of your card like with nouveau? No problems at all, but I don't do any gaming. Have you done any tweaks? Nope. danny@debian...

Well, you were in root......
I guess if it worked with sudo, it was indeed installed. I just tried in root instead of using sudo, and it worked either way for me.

While you were in terminal, did you have a "#" or a "$" before you started typing your command?

What do you mean synaptics is no longer supported?
It's in the software center and there's nothing in the Debian Wiki about dropping it.

Re: Install VirtualBox 6.0 on Debian 10.
Reinstalled VirtualBox using the procedure first referenced in this thread per the web site https://tecadmin.net/install-virtualbox ... 10-buster/
It installed and ran the downloaded MX18.3 just fine.

Re: Install VirtualBox 6.0 on Debian 10.
Thank you, but I installed VirtualBox by ".run" . I'm not a fan of SUSE. I guess you are a "MX Linux" developer? They are Debian 10 packages, openSUSE just kindly provides a free platform in the cloud that builds and hosts the packages in a DEBIAN 10 repository for free. At leas...

Re: Suggestion for better beginner
What I do......during installation I just leave the root password blank and continue to put in a password for the user (I'm the only one). That allows me to have superuser access whenever I want through sudo. This is similar to what I've experienced with Linux Mint or other *buntu's, ......or MX Lin...
