btrfs drive not being seen by plex or kodi.

I found that it works fine if I first create a GPT partition and put btrfs inside. But if I use mkfs. btrfs to partition a blank drive, then mount that drive in fstab by label and not by UUID. I do not use btrfs raids of any kind. The problem occurs all the data will not be seen by plex or Kodi. I h...

Re: btrfs + mergerfs or btrfs single.

I have experimented with this for like 15 years. I used to use ext4 and mhdffs but it got to buggy to use at debian 8 so i changed to mergerfs. I was storing lots of little text files and wanted some compression and btrfs file system looked good for this. After reading a bit at debian 9 I converted ...

Re: BTRFS on Debian Stable, your experiences?

Hard drive End to End failure This happened on a btrfs drive when i was deleting lots of files and the trash can got full. It has me worried now that this may happen to another drive. I am wondering if there is a way to set trash bins like a virtual shared drive across every volume on the system so ...

Re: btrfs + mergerfs or btrfs single.

Btrfs + mergerfs + compression I have been running this now for a while and only had problem on a old drive. I am running 2 5 port esata multiplexers with 10 drives formated btrfs. i use the mergerfs to join them as It works well to keep the directorys intact on each drive. none of the btrfs join op...

Re: debian 11 and python 2.7 removal?

Debian 10.2 seems to be on python 3 now but if you use gnome but some other desktops will make python 2.7 take over. its a real pain now with both fighting to control the machine. I wish they just take 2 out of the repository and force people to manualy install it if they need it. I wanted to get my...

10.2 install if press enter on root password

when doing a new install and it asks for the root password
if you press enter there does not seem to be a way to back up on the menu and put in a root password.

I had to reboot and start the install over to put in root password.

Re: debian 11 and python 2.7 removal?

debian 11 is under developent and testing at the moment. But january 1 2000 was end of life on python 2.7 yet the developers have not removed it from the testing builds. Fedora susie both have removed it. I was hoping debian would.

Re: when will gnome disk utility be updated into debian ?

well after spending an hour trying to install arch and finding it needed some drivers i gave up on it. just way to much command line needed to run it. It seems to have more newer btrfs code but just to hard to set it up.

Re: when will gnome disk utility be updated into debian ?

I have btrfs running on 9 drives and am in process of changing more of my ext4 over to btrfs. but I ran into 1 problem with 12 tb drives they seem to have a unusually long precheck at bootup and fstab fails them. I am looking for a work around for that. I installed opensuse and well its yast gui too...

when will gnome disk utility be updated into debian ?

I am trying to use btrfs and the new version of the disk utility seems to have it patched so we can set up btrfs drives. the version in debian now is just not friendly to btrfs.

Re: Btrfs mounting on a 12tb drive seems to fail

Just a note the disk utility i used was gnome disk utility but it was older version that did not have btrfs support yet. I checked the develpment of that utility and they seem to be adding it so you can specify compression and such in the utility for btrfs. I hope they move this out for stable use s...

Re: Were is best place for btrfs support.

Well OpenSuse is way further ahead it has GUI tools for handling partition and making btrfs ext4 lvm and other methods. I set up the desktop version of OpenSuse and it is very much improved over how it was years ago when i last used it. It seems pretty nice now and works a lot like Debian does altho...

Re: Were is best place for btrfs support.

btrfs looks like a good idea It really needs some gui apps developed for it so people would not be afraid of it. If i am understanding they are trying to get away from partitions. so you just install btrfs on lots of drives and put them in a machine. then you can divide them up and apply raid or not...
