VirtualBox 4.0.2 unsynced Disk Usage Analyzer and df -h

I have a problem with my partitions being shrunk after VirtualBox PUEL 4.0.2 install. I tried VB OSE, loaded XP Pro and all necessary programs and realized it does not support sharing of folders. I then removed it and installed PUEL with XP Pro and all the same programs. The USB would not work in PU...

Re: Need access to Windows drive

There are no windows computers on this network. Although, it grew out of an XP DHCP network. There is one laptop that is XP, but it was not on when the 'Windows Network' icon showed up. I would like to copy the files over to ext3, but it's about 130 GB's of photos and home movies. I have a 180 GB SA...

Need access to Windows drive

OK, so I was doing pretty good with working things out. But, now I am stuck. I am trying to get all these Lenny boxes to see each other and access a file server. After consulting the tomes of wisdom and trying in vain to configure everything; I am stopped. Here's what's going on: I have a Router beh...

Re: Unable to mount html cd's

Solved: these are data DVD's! I copied one to a flash drive and it works fine in iceweasel. I had to change some of the adobe flash player settings to keep it from warning me on every page.

I did learn about MediaInfo, dpkg -f, and gdebi. So it's not been a total waste of time.

Re: Unable to mount html cd's

OK, I think this is actually a data DVD and I don't have a DVD drive on my linux box. I should be able to test that at the office tomorrow.

Re: Unable to mount html cd's

What about poking around in XP when it reads the cd to see what codec it's using? I don't think Northrop Grumman is going to take the time to tell me what codec is needed. After all, that's probably a reason the Army does not use Linux when it really should be. paivakil: Here's what happened for tha...

Re: Unable to mount html cd's

Would not the cd auto mount on insertion anyway? Every other cd I have will do that.

But I will try it later tonight.

Unable to mount html cd's

I'm trying to mount a CD I received from the Army for a distance learning course. Northrop Grumman wrote the program, and it works fine in XP. I can't mount it no matter what file system I try. My online college cd's work fine in Debian. They are also html. Anybody know what file system might be use...

Solved 'play music CD from CLI' (partially)

OK, so here's a small victory story. I was messing around with my PII box in the shop and saw a package named "cdtool." I had still not figured out how to play a music CD at this point. So I did sudo apt-get install cdtool and presto! I can now play my beloved Barry Manilow sings the hits ...

CAC Reader SCR3310 working for AKO

I got my CAC reader working in Linux following these instructions http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-564763.html Some of the packages listed in the apt-get are not listed in the repositories and must not be needed as the instructions worked perfectly the first time. DV: Impressive! Most imp...

Re: Pop The Hood, Start Yankin Wires

Polaris: OK! Now your talkin! I will be busy for a few days with an annual ISO extortion audit and this weekend will be full also. So I'll check back in after I trash the kernel a few times and let you know what I did not understand and how I thought I was so smart each time I crash it.

Roger That on the Router

I got the router/network setup and working. I'm still figuring out how to print to my HP5N Laser Jet on TCP/IP. I've got some instructions from digging around, none work of course. So I'll keep trying there. The CAC reader is a SCR3310 v2.0 USB. There are some instructions out there for Linux also, ...

Staying With Debian

I don't want anything from MS, my family does not really care. So long as they can go to Facebook, YouTube, the usual mail outlets, and play flash games. We were using Star Office way back in 2000 so Open Office is OK. NObody but me used anything except Word anyway. That darn filing system is really...

May not be the right time

Yeah, I know about the volunteering time thing. Sorry if I sound short, it's meant more to be funny and I get carried away sometimes. I figured I had limited time to get this done. This weekend I was informed I effectively have about 6 months of my own free time left for the next 2 years. I would li...

Re: How does 'file system' operate

So Disk Manager can change the <options> just like editing the /etc/fstab file, right? If the <options> is listed as 'default' and default includes 'rw,auto, nouser' and I edit either way to read 'defaults, user' that should allow me to mount the volume and dump files in because user will override nou...

Re: How does 'file system' operate

Here's an update on fixing this mess. Actually a question. I have had the unpleasant experience of having my hard drive crash. So I had to reinstall Lenny. I tried to setup the same partitions except I used the LVM option in the install. One ofthe next things I was going to tackle was why this compu...
