Solved: these are data DVD's! I copied one to a flash drive and it works fine in iceweasel. I had to change some of the adobe flash player settings to keep it from warning me on every page.

I did learn about MediaInfo, dpkg -f, and gdebi. So it's not been a total waste of time.

OK, I think this is actually a data DVD and I don't have a DVD drive on my linux box. I should be able to test that at the office tomorrow.

What about poking around in XP when it reads the cd to see what codec it's using? I don't think Northrop Grumman is going to take the time to tell me what codec is needed.
