Installing Debian 9 (Stretch) RC4 with full disk encryption.

I have a ThinkPad T500 with libreboot and I am trying to install Debian 9 (Stretch) Release candidate 4 following all the instructions in the Libreboot documentation to install Debian encrypted with full disk encryption. After the installation, the system boots, but it doesn't get to the desktop env...

Re: Install Longman LDOCE5 on 64-bit Debian GNU/Linux

apt-get install libcanberra-gtk-module:i386 And now there is no error. But I don't see the dictionary opening in a new window, all it does is: un@HP:~$ ./ldoce5/ldoce5 (ldoce5-bin:2202): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "pixmap", (ldoce5-bin:2202): Gtk-WARNING...

Re: Install Longman LDOCE5 on 64-bit Debian GNU/Linux

I installed quite a lot of libraries that didn't make a change. The following is what made progress: dpkg --add-architecture i386 apt-get update apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386 After installing that package, when launching the dictionary, the error had changed to: ./ldoce5/ldoce5-bin: error while l...

"No candidate version found for ia32-libs-gtk" ???

I am using Debian 8 jessie and I cannot find “ia32-libs-gtk”. I launched setup.sh and the installation begun. It seemed to go well through all the installation process until the last few lines: 100% - /home/un/ldoce5//ldoce5.data/exa_pron.skn/dirs.skn/FILES.skn/FILES.dat Fixing data Install fonts cp...

Re: HP QuickPlay buttons enable/disable

Ok, this is quite easy to attain. With KDE 4 the keyboard model can be selected clicking on System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Hardware > Keyboard Model. With GNOME 3 go to System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Sound and Multimedia, and there, set "volume up" key combination t...

[Solved] HP QuickPlay buttons enable/disable

My laptop has a some multimedia keys for quick access. They are causing a common issue with many HP laptops easily found on the Internet ( volume keeps turning up and down). Apparently the ultimate solution is to simply disable this buttons. On the next page, under the title "Multimedia Keys&qu...

Manual search network operator

My ISP provided me with a USB modem and software that's not meant to be run on Debian. I have easily had the modem working with the help of the configuration wizard and the Network settings. But there is a feature I can't seen to find in the Network settings' window. What I am missing is the ability...

"WD My Cloud" runs Debian

I have run out of room in my hard drives and I am planning to buy an external hard drive. I found out that the "WD My Cloud" comes with a 800MHz CPU, 256 MB of RAM memory, has Debian installed within and supports SSH. This way I can remotely access my files without having to carry it every...

Re: Recover previous cliipboard buffer

Thanks, but I dont want to have a clipboard manager for future times. I want to recover the history or previous buffer that s on the clipboard using the default manager in GNOME as mentioned in my first post. I am not using the clipboard anymore today and I am going to leave the laptop suspended til...

Recover previous cliipboard buffer

Using Epiphany web browser on Gnome 3 fallback mode. Have just now finished writing down an elaborated response. Before I post it, I copy it to the clipboard simply pressing ctrl+c and reload the page. Then I make a small mistake, I press ctrl+c, I say oops!, and then press ctrl+v to notice nothing ...

manually switch to battery feed while the AC adapter is plug

Well, it seems like the BIOS installed is already the latest version. Damn, this leaves me without any hope to survive the sudden blackouts. Well, what about playing with the kernel to manually switch from AC adapter feed to battery feed? Because every time the AC adapter is plugged the OS automatic...

Re: laptop shuts off when unplugged (battery >15min)

If it's instant as in "boom, power off" then it's not an OS issue. It's a hardware issue. From my experience laptop batteries last about 2 years before getting really bad really fast. Instantaneously, just as if the battery were not there. But the battery can last over 15 minutes when I b...

Re: laptop shuts off when unplugged (battery >15min)

IIRC, that's a choice in the power setting. When the battery gets below a certain level everything shuts off but I think that can be changed. My guess is that your battery has lost its elasticity. I can not find that choice in the power settings. But let's assume the power settings are NOT configur...

Re: laptop shuts off when unplugged (battery >15min)

The laptop starts off the battery and and can last for over 15 minutes before I have to plug it to continue using it. But once it has been plugged, it will shut down instantaneously if unplugged.

laptop shuts off when unplugged (battery >15min)

The problem here is that the laptop shuts down instantaneously whenever it is unplugged, even if it has the battery on and always at over 95%. It is an old laptop and an old battery that nowadays can not last more than 20 minutes. But 15 mins is more than enough for me to move it to another room. An...

Re: ssh doesn't work after sending reboot command.

I had almost forgotten about this thread. I found out where the problem was. I was forgetting that the user name in the remote computer is not the same as in my laptop and that I have to mention it in the command. So simple as that. Yes, very silly. Strange enough the verbose debug output of ssh doe...

[solved] ssh doesn't work after sending reboot command.

HI, last week while I was using ssh to the computer1 inside a NAT as usual, I made another tunnel from the computer1 that I was connecting to, to another computer2 inside that NAT (ssh 192.168.1.130) and after making some changes in computer2 I typed reboot. The computer2 rebooted but the tunnel tot...
