Re: [SOLVED] Micro How to install Jessie on Alienware X51

Damn, someone seems to be at a vastly slower time scale than the rest of us. Are you in a starship near the speed of light, or closely orbiting a black hole? Or located half a light year away from Earth? Hi! It's damn freezing here beyond Kuiper Belt. Half of the hardware have failed by now. Neverm...

Re: Debian 11 Bullseye doesn't uprade packages

Nope, this happen when yours attention is needed or package priority is not significant Well it's not safe to perform distribution upgrade without being fully prepared for such action . Same refers to 'apt full-upgrade'. So far Bullseye is considered as supported release. That's why I got confused ...

Debian 11 Bullseye doesn't upgrade packages

I've tried several days of manual 'apt update' along with 'apt upgrade' with no results. $ apt list --upgradable Reading package list… Ready curl/oldstable-proposed-updates 7.74.0-1.3+deb11u12 amd64 [upgradable from: 7.74.0-1.3+deb11u11] libcurl3-gnutls/oldstable-proposed-updates 7.74.0-1.3+deb11u12...

Re: [Solved] How to mount '/boot' which is rooted inside '/' covered within LVM?

mdadm is for RAID. You may be able to remove the package if you don't use RAID. I don't think it is required for LVM. There was no need for that. I've no clear understanding but all the way easy solution comes from Ubuntu side: $ sudo update-initramfs -u and $ sudo update-grub concenquently. There ...

Re: [Solved] How to mount '/boot' which is rooted inside '/' covered within LVM?

Luckily I had these hints to redo the same thing again as the problem with CMOS battery remained and have kept my 'UEFI' being updated with 'Debian UEFI' deleted every other boot up. By replacing battery with common CR2032 I got rid of RPC fault. Nevertheless after successfull 'UEFI Debian' setting ...

Re: How to mount '/boot' which is rooted inside '/' covered within LVM?

Just adding "sudo " in front of a shell snippet that should be run as root won't work. For example think about why "sudo cat /etc/motd > /root/motd" fails but running "cat /etc/motd > /root/motd" as root works? Last things first: May I solve your riddle in a way: sudo ...

Re: How to mount '/boot' which is rooted inside '/' covered within LVM?

sudo takes a command as a an argument, "for" is not a command, it is builtin of your shell. I can't quite understand that. # for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /sys/firmware/efi/efivars /run; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done describes folders ment to be consider as placed in '/' while actu...

[Solved] How to mount '/boot' which is rooted inside '/' covered within LVM?

Hi all! Due to PCR failure my PC have lost something in UEFI and I haven't got Debian 11 installation but Win10 instead. One fine day I have lost GRUB from Secure UEFI and got only Win10 left. Luckily I still have LiveUSB with installation menu and could boot into the system to find out there's no m...

Re: Why do you use debian?

My use history was: Mandrake - Red Hat - Mandriva - Debian - Ubuntu - Debian then I preferred to stop switch over. Stability. Firm support for reliable packages. Most of the software that wasn't pre-packaged into the Debian could be found online with original '.deb' packages.

IMO it is a waste to not use the SSD for users' home directories.
What percentage of free SSD space can you recommend for such use?

Re: [Software] Bullseye 11 keeps network disconnect upon each reboot

This time it was very strange loss of network. I could ping my router and nothing else! I tried to change DNS to some well known common servers, tried to switch on a flag at 'Use this connection only for resources on this network' and play with Proton 'Kill switch' settings. Latest was installed fro...

As you may observe from the top post I do have a couple disks in the machine. The biggest 'hdd' is used for /home partition.
