If that doesn't work, reboot and install Windows. Then your problems won't seem so bad. Plus, always remember that in some parallel universe your hardware is supported and you have Debian running perfectly!
Felt like a little humor today.

Here a few staples of computer science in the 1990's ;-). * UNIX Internals by Vahalia * Operating Systems Concepts by Silberschatz, Galvin, and Gagne * Distributed Operating Systems by Tanenbaum They still make good references and you can probably find cheap used copies or find them in your local li...

Which desktop will install and run WINE? I have read all the posts I can find about Wayland/Gnome blocking the WINE install, and it always says to disable Wayland, though I can't find out how to do that. [deleted ]Any thoughts? I am running Gnome (sometimes with Wayland and sometimes with X) and us...

-It should have topped out around 156, but did look like it was making multiple copies for some reason. I wonder if I accidentally instructed Ark to unpack everything to different paths, I used it to look at the contents first and some things were nested. I moved the zip archive only off to an exte...

Going back to what sunrat said about his/her foe list, I would be honored to be on your foe list. Just kidding. There is one person I have seen who I have a low opinion of. Most due to his demeanor. I would hope that someone would feel free to tell me I am a jerk. Ok, you all can taunt me mercilessl...

Finally, there are some children that visit this forum. Heck, cuckooflew is only eleven years old! ;-) We will see if he catches that. I did, and I am ashamed of myself, what a bad example of behaviour, "lying" ,...at the time , I was joking... I will fix my age in my profile, don't want ...

Oh come on folks, these boards aren't supposed to be all chummy & friendly. Have you ever read the Debian mailing lists? They're a bunch of grumpy, argumentative bastards and I think we should have the same ambiance here  You #*^%* Windows user! Actually, I can do worse. I have uttered...

If someone claims that his program does not have any bugs, then it only means that he didn't tested the program thoroughly ;) The probability that the program has a bug grows exponentially with the number of lines of code. The probability that there's a security hole, grows exponentially with the n...

Going off topic a bit (but still slightly related) which seems OK here.. I can't find the (better) article I read originally, but here is something from Wired. https://www.wired.com/story/dark-metal-cloud-computers-invisible-malware/ I agree with HOAS that SecureBoot is a step in the right directio...

Anyone else feeling there is an increase in bad manners, hostility, and downright rudeness since pandemic started? It seems to be happening in every forum in which I participate and some other messaging channels. FDN is not as bad as a couple I'm in, and there's one I'm considering abandoning entir...

Just started reading this month's (August 2020) issue of IEEE Computing Edge. It is focused on security and has articles on trusted execution environments, fortifying formal verification, etc. Might be an interesting read for anyone reading this thread.

After my 1985 thesis defense, my thesis committee wanted me to strengthen one section of my writing, and move one section of it to a different chapter. In less than an hour, I went home, made the changes they had requested on my Amiga, printed the whole 76-page thing out on my letter-quality, dot-m...

I do. I was looking for some UNIX flavor I could run on my new PC. I actually paid for Coherent (I bet few people remember that). I kept an eye on Linux, but started using FreeBSD shortly after it was released. Oh, I dual booted Linux (via Slackware and the million floppy disks it took). I guess I d...
