Re: No sound on boot (usually) but comes back after resume from suspend
Were you able to fix this issue? I am also encountering this same issue (and, strangely, it only affects my front speakers, my rear speakers and LFE are fine), and I have not been able to find any way to fix it. Sorry for the late reply. I never really found a solution for this. I upgraded this sys...

Re: No sound on boot (usually) but comes back after resume from suspend
If the speaker-test output is the same for both working and non-working systems then I would conclude you are experiencing some sort of hardware-based issue. A live ISO would help confirm this. I used this Debian 11 live image (KDE + nonfree firmware) as found here: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdima...

Re: No sound on boot (usually) but comes back after resume from suspend
Compare the output of this command for both a working and non-working state: speaker-test # from the alsa-utils package The output on the terminal is the same (except that when sound is working, I can hear the noise) speaker-test 1.2.4 Playback device is default Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_L...

No sound on boot (usually) but comes back after resume from suspend
Hi all, Seems like I'm affected by a weird race condition when doing a cold start boot (which I do very often). It seems like it should all work, but I hear no sound after a cold boot (occasionally it works fine). Full disclaimer, I run a locally compiled Xanmod LTS kernel (5.15.x) for squeezing out...

Re: Compile kernel 3.14+: recipe for target drivers failed
If you don't need the driver, just disable it in the configuration. # CONFIG_R8821AE is not set I just looked at the wheezy-backports 3.14 kernel, and none of the staging drivers, of which rtl8821ae is one, have been enabled. Yes, it works now. I disabled the driver and now the kernel compiles fine...

Re: Kernel compile and install for newbies
Have you guys been able to compile kernels since 3.14 ?
From vanilla sources, I keep getting this annoying error about a "recipe" for a driver failing, for more details see this:

Compile kernel 3.14+: recipe for target drivers failed
I've been trying to use kernel-package and/or the kernel-built-in deb-pkg to build debian packages from vanilla kernels 3.14.x, 3.15.x and 3.16.x. I import the configuration directly from my testing kernel 3.14-2 and do the following: $ cp /boot/config-3.14-2-amd64 .config $ make menuconfig $ make-k...

battery widget pops out to desktop in KDE (jessie)
I have this weird problem in KDE. I haven't quite figured out how to reproduce it consistently, but often the problem comes after doing the following: - Startup laptop (Asus G55VW) - login KDE - Unplug AC adapter - Close the lid - Laptop automatically suspends - Open lid - Laptop resumes correctly -...

Re: xfce power manager: settings ignored
acimmarusti , just a silly question but worth checking. You don't, perchance, also have Gnome's power manager also running, do you? Nope. That was one of my first tests. Nor do I have gnome-screensaver either. $ aptitude search power-manager p gnome-power-manager - power management tool for the GNO...

Re: xfce power manager: settings ignored
Yep screen blanking can be annoying if you do not want it. I think the brightness adjust issue is a known bug iirc. For screen blanking I usually use Section "ServerFlags" Option "BlankTime" "0" Option "StandbyTime" "0" Option "SuspendTime"...

Re: xfce power manager: settings ignored
I finally managed to understand some of my problems and I found a satisfactory solution to 2 and 3: 2. The supposed 'presentation' mode does not work. LCD screen in laptop is still turned off after 10 min... Naturally VLC's own inhibition of power manager doesn't work either. 3. I wanted to watch a ...

Re: xfce power manager: settings ignored
For 3: check your DPMS setting in xorg. Xorg can and will override power managers if the DPMS options are ON. Hell for a while even explicitly disabling DPMS in xorg.conf wouldn't work since the damn server would just start it later for some reason... I know at one time I had to make a script that ...

Re: xfce mixer, volumed and pulseaudio multiple outputs
I've found a reliable script to change volume here:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 27#p438627
I had to modify it, in order to be robust enough to handle HDMI outputs. xfce4-volumed must be removed and new keyboard shortcuts must be created.

Re: xbindkeys-friendly mixer control for pulseaudio
I got it working! I'm so happy! I used a similar trick as the get_cur_vol function you used. However, I can see limitations in this script. For example, if there are several sinks, it will only choose the first one (which I suppose is the default one...but I'm not sure). Here's the modified script. ...

Re: xbindkeys-friendly mixer control for pulseaudio
If you find yourself trying this script, please give me feedback, I'd like to know if it works for everyone. Thanks man, this is awesome!. Unfortunately I found a problem with it. In my laptop, I find myself constantly using the HDMI audio output to watch videos on a TV. Normally I use pavucontrol ...

Re: xfce power manager: settings ignored
I am using xfce, is there anything specific I can test to see if it happens on mine as well? Brightness is out as I have a crt. Can you try reproducing my 3rd point?. Go to power manager settings and carefully check if your monitor remains ON longer if you increase the threshold for standby time. M...

[SOLVED]xfce mixer, volumed and pulseaudio multiple outputs
Dear all, I need to use pulseaudio and pavucontrol to be able to easily toggle between HDMI audio output to a TV and laptop speakers. I also want to use xfce volumed and mixer to control audio with special Fn keys. Sadly xfce volumed does not use pulse by default, but interacts directly with the sou...

xfce power manager: settings ignored
Dear all I've been using xfce 4.8 on Debian wheezy. It works great except for the the power manager which is giving me many problems: 1. The brightness control does not work. After the time of inactivity is elapsed the brightness is not adjusted accordingly. Adjusting it manually via the panel plugi...

Yes, I just did and it worked. I got the idea from here:craigevil wrote:Try moving the file.

I removed the file and then rebooted the computer and everything is fine again.
