That sounds pretty good. Thanks for that info. Your time was excellent as well. I will definitely keep your examples in mind.

Re: Force Xfce Upgrade

I appreciate your viewpoint. Here is mine. The use of a general web search is often flooded with undesirable results. That's why I expect the correct information from the horse's mouth, so to speak. When a web site is provably confusing and hard to utilize appropriately, it is less than ideal. Thank...

Re: Force Xfce Upgrade

I sure appreciate that link. I was totally unfamiliar with those instructions as they are not listed from the home page. I will go over it in detail. Thanks again.

Re: Force Xfce Upgrade

When I looked at all the caveats and gothas to doing an upgrade, it looked like I have to just do a new install from fresh as I normally must. (I always hope that there will be a simple apt or Synaptic upgrade path, but that will probably never be.) I just don't have time right now.

Force Xfce Upgrade

Is it possible to force the upgrade of Xfce 4.16 to 4.18 on Bullseye?

Re: upgrade method.

My personal experience is to just back up everything, and then do a fresh install. This gives a person a chance to reorganize their data and to move it to a drive that can be removed and kept out of the fresh install process. This is probably a good opportunity to install Qubes first and then Debian...

Re: [Hardware] Print Dialog Boxes

Is there nothing?

How about this question: Does anyone know which part of Debian handles the print function when wanting to create a bug report?

[Hardware] Print Dialog Boxes

It appears that there is a problem with the settings in the dialog box. Many printers can perform borderless or full-bleed printing. However, the settings in the options do not allow the user to reduce margins to zero. For instance, my Canon G7020 can handle full-bleed, but the interface will not al...

Re: Watchdog Error: Can't request region for resource

I suppose you are correct. If I had a new distro, I would think that the best way to install would be to create a web page where the kernel is first customized for the user's hardware, and only then would the network installer know what to do during the install process.

Thanks much, Pal

Re: Watchdog Error: Can't request region for resource

Seems to be a flaw in the OS not to be able to tell the difference.

Oops. Totally missed that. The dmidecode line returned: Total Width: Unknown Data Width: Unknown Total Width: 64 bits Data Width: 65 bits I did not modify the memory speed, and there is no ECC config option in BIOS. Re: EDAC amd64: Error: F1 not found: device 0x1601 (broken BIOS?)

It is very disconcerting to continually see that message when booting up. It would be nice if things worked as they should.

Thanks anyway.

That does not fix it, but rather appears to just cover it up.

Watchdog Error: Can't request region for resource

During boot up of Debian 11 on HP Pavilion G6, this message appears:
wdat_wdt wdat_wdt can't request region for resource

What does it mean and how do I eliminate it?

EDAC amd64: Error: F1 not found: device 0x1601 (broken BIOS?)

This error message comes up during boot on an HP Pavilion G6 notebook with Debian 11 Bullseye installed. (It has the latest and last BIOS installed.)

How do I remove this boot-up message ?
