[Solved] OS-Prober default and 2 OS install
1 T ssd partitioned with Win10 and Mint. About 1/2 for each OS. I want to wipe the Mint partition and install Debain. I don't want to harm the Win10 partition. Using the LiveUSB graphical installer, I'll tell it to use /sda5 (where is Mint) for Debian. In another post at this forum, in reply to anot...

[Solved] [RESOLVED] Installing over Mint and Win10
I paid for the installation of a 1T drive on this laptop. (Asus X540y). The installer put Mint on one-half and Win10 on the other. I want to return to Debian. The disk has 6 partitions on it. The common 100-odd gig FAT, a partition of 17 gig with an unknown named filesystem. Then the 518 Gig Win NTF...

Re: [Software] Editing su to read: sudo
The name of the hplip file is: hplip-3.22.10.run . This file runs under ./ and the third step is to input the user password. I see this on the 'net: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1070477/install-hplip-does-not-accept-root-password explaining the original coders used "su" and after than t...

[Software] HP Printer HPLIP, su and sudo
The Linux guys at HP, have a binary script to run/install the code for their Linux supported printers. But they left in that installer, su (deprecated) and finding and replacing those su with sudo has proved more than problematic. Prior to that change from su to sudo, I was able to run the hplip and...

[Suggestion] Search Result Citation by DATE
IMO It would be useful to put the date of the original post in the search results. Some material is so dated, for my problem, that any result more than 2 years old is likely to give out-of-date information.

@Aki
Thank you. I'm going to pull the internal desktop drive, boot to liveUSB and try to install another instance of Bullseye on the external device.

Re: [Software] DejaDup RESTORE problem.
I've removed the folder named Weddington. I believe it was not in the original backup. Weddington was the former name of the computer. I have not run a restore in a decade. So, after deleting Weddington, DejaDup found it backup files/directories and is restoring, as I type. Thank you, Linux Community.

[Solved] Editing su to read: sudo
I want to change the text of this line to read sudo instead of su. Yes I see the #. su sudo=su|sudo [TYPE STRING] # SU IS DEFAULT I have a HP hplip* file with deprecated su's in it. I'll likely have to manually fix the 12 to 15 lines with su in them, but as running the hplip-xx-xx.run fails on enter...

Re: [Software] Running Bullseye from an external SSD
I thought I got a smart idea and would install Bullseye on an external ssd. I thought I could make my Acer laptop's Win10 boot from it. Two days later, I've destroyed my Desktop production OS and had to reinstall Bullseye from scratch. No harm, no foul, I've got an external backup. WHEW! I do not li...

How do I check the uid/gid and is that for permissions, or non-matching UUIDs?

[Solved] DejaDup RESTORE problem.
I have reinstalled Bullseye today. don't ask! :) I have a DejaDup backup from last week. As I always do for this work: I plugged into the USB3 port the external hdd drive where DejaDup stores the backup files. Deja ran and then said: Giving up after 2 attempts. Error: Error getting information for t...

[Solved] Running Bullseye from an external SSD
I have an external ssd (USB3), and using Rufus https://rufus.ie/en/ and an .iso Bullseye netinstall image (https://www.debian.org/CD/live/), I tried to make an operating system that I could plug into a Windows 10 laptop and have Bullseye instead of Windows. The .iso was placed on the Windows Desktop...

[Solved] Hardware RTC not synching to NTC
Some months past, I would power up the 'puter and see that the BIOS time was 9 hours ahead of local time. I changed the CMOS battery on the motherboard. And then changed the battery again with another new battery, but the batteries were not the problem. Then, for the last few months, the system time...

SOLVED Re: [Software] Network Manager Not Reaching the Internet
donald kent_dorfman766 PLEASE ignore the responses, below. By the time I booted back to the faulty networking computer (not the LiveUSB), the ethernet side is back up and while I did do a reset on my OpenWRT firmware, that seems to be the solution. I'm very grateful for this support. How can I repa...

[Software] Network Manager Not Reaching the Internet
During a temporary power outage, my Bullseye has lost network (ethernet) connectivity. When I turned the power back on, there was no internet. From a LiveUSB is there a way to repair this? If you know someplace on the internet that explains how to do this, please point me to it. I'm not experienced ...
